November 29 is #GivingTuesday!

What follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday but is far less work than shopping? Why, it is Giving Tuesday - and this year, it falls on November 29th. Please take a break from your holiday shopping on Tuesday to give the gift of literacy. Did you know that literacy is a powerful tool to break cycles of poverty? A donation to literacy makes Calgary stronger, and what better way to show a friend or loved one that you really care?

To illustrate how literacy changes lives, we invite you to read Ben’s story. Ben began his journey with CanLearn two years ago. When he started, Ben could not read or write well; his mother had been told that he would never read beyond the grade 1 level. Working with a CanLearn instructor, Ben gained important foundational skills, and he is currently reading at the grade 6 level; now, that’s what we call progress! Ben is very motivated by his success and enthusiastic about continuing his learning. He loves participating in group discussions and confidently shares his opinion. In the past year, Ben has made major strides in reading and writing, and the future looks bright for the first time in a very long time. Congratulations to Ben on his progress and for inspiring all of us. Literacy changes lives and builds hope for the future. Can you help us provide access to more learners?
