While some areas start to open back up, the shelter-in-place continues in full force for elders living out in the community. They will likely be among the last to regain "normality" as they are at highest risk.
The spike in requests for Meals on Wheels has not ceased, nor has the need for groceries, meds, essentials, or just the need to talk. LIFE staff and neighborhood volunteers have steadily expanded (with their time, their generosity, and their hearts) to fill as many of those needs as possible.
Let me tell you, it has been beyond comforting to see the reserves of strength and resilience people instinctively share with the most vulnerable during times like these. It's that kind of grit that showcases the power of true humanity amidst extreme uncertainty.
