Greetings!

Dear Saints,

It was so wonderful to be back in worship with you in person again last Sunday. Your many hugs and words of comfort have sustained me through this time of grief. The many smiles and sweet Spirit of God surrounding me on Sunday was just overwhelming. Thank you for just being you.

I know you were blown away by Pastor Lucia Chappelle's message on Sunday! Pastor Lucia laid it out! While she preached a whole sermon, the part that is sticking with me this week is the line, "Jesus didn't say, 'GO, taste and see.' Jesus said, 'COME, taste and see!'" Now, THAT is some good preaching!

This Sunday, we are so excited to share a blended service at 11:30 a.m. to celebrate the 85th birthday of our founder, Rev. Troy D. Perry! We have some amazing music lined up, and the message is another one you won't want to miss! The sermon is entitled, Going First Class! We'll also have lunch together after the service, so come on time (11:30 a.m.), and stay for lunch. Let's have the best birthday celebration for Rev. Troy ever!

God bless.

Pastor Keith

Scripture is taken from

First John, Chapter 3, Verses 1 through 3 (The Message Version)

What wonderful love our Creator has lavished upon us! Look at it! We are called children of God! That is truly what we are. Yet that is also why the world does not recognize us or take us seriously, for it has no idea who God is or what God is doing. Nevertheless, friends, that is exactly what we are: children of God. And that is only the beginning. Who knows what we will become! What we do know is that when Christ is openly revealed, we shall see Christ, and upon seeing Christ, we shall become like Christ. All of us who eagerly await the coming of Christ keep ourselves prepared, taking the radiant purity of Jesus’s life as the model for our own.

We have the urgent need of additional sound operators for both services, but especially for the 1:30 service. You don't need to be Spanish-speaking to operate our Sound. Don Mueller will be providing a basic introduction to our Sound this coming Sunday at 10am (before the 11:30 Troy Perry birthday service). Showing up to this does not obligate you, but does let you become more knowledgeable in what is required for further training. (If you think you may be interested, but cannot show up at this time, please let Pastor Bam or Don know and a later time can be set up to meet with you.

At our Sunda y worship service, we will also be thanking Pamela Fairbanks and Oriel Mueller for their exemplary service in being our lay delegates to the MCC Universal Fellowship.

On Sunday, July 26th, at 11:30 am, both congregations will once again come together to celebrate our Founder, Rev. Troy Perry's birthday. The service will feature special music, and a guest speaker. This is one service you won't want to miss!

Aug 2: As is our tradition, we are again giving out Christine Daniels scholarships. From the many applicants received, we have selected 6 amazing recipients who will be awarded during the 10am service. We thank you once again, Trans*Unity Ministry for continuing your leadership in this worthy endeavor.

You are invited to the baptism of Karam—María Eugenia and Karina’s baby—on August 2nd. The ceremony will take place after the 1:30 pm Spanish worship service at 3 p.m. with a reception to follow.

With the ICE, Homeland Security, and Border Patrol raids occurring so frequently here in Los Angeles, we at FMCC/ICMF realize the fear that many of our congregants have in leaving their homes. We are initializing an immediate ministry called, ANGELS. This ministry is for those who may be fearful of going to the grocery store, the pharmacy, and the department store and need to reach out to an ANGEL for help. It is also for people who may be willing to run these errands (for those too fearful to leave home currently) to let us know you're willing to BE an ANGEL. So, if you need an ANGEL, or if you're willing to be an ANGEL, please contact us at care@mccla.org and we'll match you up if at all possible.

There continues to be a need for a "White Wall" to help protect the attendees of our 1:30 Spanish-speaking service. Please see Pastor Keith.

Join CLUE (Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice) and other social justice groups who have been gathering weekly in Los Angeles to pray for the return of family members who have been detained or deported.

We invite people of all genders to accompany them and hold our disappeared community members in prayer. We are hurting along with them, and we have their backs.

This vigil takes place every Tuesday, Noon at the Los Angeles Federal Building.

Covid-19 Protocols

As we continue to cope with Covid-19, we are changing our protocols. The new protocols are in line with the rest of LA County. Until further notice, here are our guidelines:

1. We will no longer require vaccinations and boosters for church attendance, though we highly encourage them.
2. We will make wearing masks optional. Please feel free to continue wearing masks as you feel comfortable.

3. We ask people that have symptoms of (or tested positive for) Covid, flu, monkeypox, or any other easily communicable disease to please refrain from attending until they are well.

As we have from the very beginning of the pandemic, we will continue to keep in line with the advice of the LA County Public Health Department. Thank you so much for your patience as we navigate new guidelines.

Statement on Ebola Crisis

Metropolitan Community Churches (MCC) views the deepening Ebola crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda not only as a global health emergency, but as a profound moral failure driven by systemic global injustices.

We stand in prayerful solidarity with the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda—especially the families who have lost loved ones, those who are ill, and the communities living with uncertainty and fear.

We honour the extraordinary courage and commitment of healthcare workers, community volunteers, faith leaders, and humanitarian organizations who continue to serve on the front lines, often with limited resources and at great personal risk. Their dedication is a powerful reminder that compassion and hope continue to shine even in the midst of crisis.

This outbreak cannot be separated from the broader realities that have shaped the African continent for generations. The legacy of colonialism, armed conflict, economic exploitation, underinvestment in public health systems, and unequal access to healthcare left many communities vulnerable long before an outbreak began. The slow and often inadequate international response to health emergencies in Africa continues to expose troubling disparities in whose lives are treated as urgent and worthy of protection.

We call upon world leaders to quickly deploy emergency medical resources, fund robust healthcare infrastructure, and eliminate the bureaucratic delays that cost human lives.

For too long, religious institutions have been among those who have "passed by on the other side" and looked the other way, remaining silent or absent when their voices and actions were most needed. Now, our voices must be raised.

The parable of the Good Samaritan reminds us that faith is demonstrated through compassionate action. As followers of Christ, we are called not simply to observe suffering, but to respond with mercy, justice, accompaniment, and practical support. The Church must help combat fear, misinformation, and stigma while standing alongside those most affected.

Recent reductions in international development assistance, public health funding, and support for global health institutions have further weakened the world's capacity to respond rapidly and effectively to emerging outbreaks. These decisions have had real consequences for local clinics and humanitarian organizations, many of which continue to face shortages of personal protective equipment, testing capacity, trained personnel, and operational funding. Bureaucratic delays and inconsistent global commitments continue to cost lives.

For generations, international systems have devalued Black and Brown lives, leaving historic inequities in global healthcare access. The slow, inadequate initial response to outbreaks in African nations highlights a devastating double standard in how global health resources are allocated.

MCC therefore calls upon world leaders to urgently deploy emergency medical resources, strengthen international cooperation, fully support the World Health Organization and other public health partners, and invest in resilient healthcare systems that can prevent and respond to future outbreaks. We also call upon governments across the African continent to continue strengthening regional cooperation, investing in public health infrastructure, supporting healthcare workers, and prioritizing emergency preparedness so that African nations are better equipped to respond to future health crises.

As an international church committed to justice and human dignity, MCC also affirms the African value of Ubuntu—the understanding that "I am because we are." An outbreak affecting one nation is a concern for the entire continent and for the global community. Our shared humanity demands a shared responsibility to protect life, especially the lives of those who have too often been overlooked or undervalued.

Healthcare is not a privilege reserved for some; it is a fundamental human right. Every person bears the image of God and is worthy of dignity, compassion, and access to life-saving care. We therefore call upon governments, international institutions, faith communities, and civil society to work together to eliminate the inequities that continue to place African communities at greater risk.

Metropolitan Community Churches stand in solidarity with all those affected by this crisis. We pray for healing for those who are ill, comfort for grieving families, protection for healthcare workers and first responders, wisdom for leaders, and a renewed global commitment to justice, equity, and compassion. May we answer Christ's call to be neighbors to all, ensuring that no community is forgotten and that every life is valued equally.
