I never initially considered joining Toastmasters. I used to notice their posters in our cafeteria but never gave them a second thought. There was a specific reason behind my indifference. It reminded me of a past experience when I was elected president of the graduate student association. I had to deliver a speech at the banquet, and that evening, I found myself entirely unprepared. Overwhelmed by fear and nerves, I dreaded having to say anything.
My turn to speak eventually arrived, and I was perspiring profusely. I was lost and didn't know what to do. In my desperation, I turned to a source of courage, a bit of liquid courage, and somehow managed to utter a few words. The only memory that lingers is the immense relief I felt when I finally sat down, coupled with a solemn vow that I would never subject myself to such an ordeal again.
A decade later, fate introduced me to a friend named Sarah, who had been an active member of Toastmasters for nearly five years. She extended an invitation to her Toastmasters club. One day, she told me that joining Toastmasters could transform my life. It was her unwavering encouragement that finally convinced me to give it a try. Without her, I would have never taken that step.
Sarah truly transformed my life through her encouragement. It led me to the job I had always dreamed of. She made a significant impact on my journey.
Reflecting on my own experience, I've come to realize that each of us has the power to make a difference in someone's life. A small act of encouragement can lead to a profound transformation. Today, I want to encourage you to reach out to at least three of your friends and invite them to experience what Toastmasters has to offer. Let them witness what we do and inspire them to embark on their own Toastmasters journey. Take advantage of the new district program, "Share Toastmasters Joy!" and receive a free entry for you and a friend to the district Toastmaster Leadership Institute on January 27th, where you'll have the chance to meet and learn from the current world champion of public speaking, Jocelyn Tyson. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of others. Always remember together we grow!
regards,
Abhijeet Joshi
