Halifax Police Give Thanks for a Happy Holidays
"As the holiday season approaches, we are delighted to share the results of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation toy drive. We appreciate the collaboration with Halifax Council on Aging, which helped make this initiative a success. Tina from Card My Yard Plymouth deserves recognition for her exceptional signage that added to the festive atmosphere. We are grateful to Country Rentals Inc for providing the popcorn machine that served tasty popcorn. A big shoutout to the Halifax Fire Department for providing the lighting. A special thank you to all community members who contributed and dropped off gifts to support the toy drive. This result demonstrates the power of community unity in providing toys to families in need"

Historical Tidbit: Steamer Trunks | |
Steamer trunks, also known as cabin trunks or traveling trunks, were originally used as luggage for extended trips by steamship, train, or stagecoach or for taking to boarding school. Many were quite elaborate inside and out. Steamer trunks have a distinguishing curved or barrel top and can weigh as much as 100 pounds.

The HBC Held Their 2nd Annual First Hike
Halifax Beautification Committee (HBC) 2nd Annual First Day Hike was a huge success with about 30 people and 2 four-legged friends exploring part of Peterson Swamp Wildlife Management Area. Joan Pierce, a MA Department of Fish and Game Land Agent attended and shared some of her knowledge of the area. Wendy Grieco, an HBC member, was the hike's photographer and litter buster. Tina Palmer, an HBC member, had the important job of making sure no one was left behind. Allan Palmer was ready and waiting back at the parking lot at the end of the hike with hot chocolate that paired well with chocolate crinkle cookies prepared by HBC member Shirley Graf.

Climate Can Do:
Doing our part to decrease Nano-plastics in the environment
To do our part, we need to stop disposing of single-use plastics as much as possible. Our throwaway culture affects our drinking water. We often prioritize convenience over consideration of long-term impacts, leading to trash cans filled with plastic and roadways littered with single-use bottles. These plastics break down over time, leaching nano-plastics into our drinking water.
Let's work together to make a change.
Here are some suggestions:
- Replace plastic water bottles with a refillable one
- Bring your take-out container for restaurant leftovers or frequent restaurants that use earth-friendly containers
- Wash and reuse any plastic containers you get with purchases
- Purchase drinks in cans or glass, not plastic. (That plastic bottle is leaching nano-plastics into your drink)
- Purchase laundry and dish detergent in Pods or Sheets instead of plastic bottles
Together, we can do it!

Family humor HAS to feature a good dose of Erma Bombeck.
Mum used to read Bombeck often to the 9 of us on long car rides. Many of her observations of family in the 70's still ring true today.
“Have you any idea how many children it takes to turn off one light in the kitchen ?Three. It takes one to say 'What light?' and two more to say 'I didn't turn it on.”
~ Erma Bombeck
“I feel very blessed to have two wonderful, healthy children who keep me completely grounded, sane and throw up on my shoes just before I go to an awards show just so I know to keep it real.” — Reese Witherspoon
“When a child is locked in the bathroom with water running and he says he's doing nothing but the dog is barking, call 911.”
~ Erma Bombeck
“Siblings: children of the same parents, each of whom is perfectly normal until they get together.” ~ Sam Levenson
| |
And one more:
“When my kids become wild and unruly, I use a nice, safe playpen. When they're finished, I climb out.” ~ Erma Bombeck
Hope you had a great family week, all!
~ Jacquie
