Author, Peter Zheutlin is a descendant of Annie Londonderry, who captured the popular imagination with her daring 'round the world' trip on a bicycle in 1895. In his new book, Zheutlin brilliantly probes the inner life and seeming boundless courage of this outlandish, brash, and charismatic woman.

In SPIN, this daring heroine and her marvelous, stranger-than-fiction story is vividly brought to life for a new generation.

VIRTUAL FRIGHT NIGHT SERIES: 'Chasing Chandler: Is The Tewksbury Library Haunted?'

Several current and former employees of the Tewksbury Public Library believe it is haunted. Over the past 10 years, there have been reports of unexplained phenomena, from shadowy figures to whispering in empty rooms to falling books seemingly defying the laws of physics. The library has hosted its annual fall "Fright Night" series of paranormal programs for the past 12 years and numerous presenters, including mediums, have often "sensed something" in the library, which was built on land that once belonged to the Tewksbury State Hospital, with two hospital cemeteries nearby. Library staff has affectionately named the ghost "Chandler," after the street the library is located, with the belief that it is a relatively "friendly ghost." In September, the library commissioned several investigative groups -- working under the umbrella of Moonlight Paranormal Productions -- to gather evidence of any supernatural being haunting the library. The team, which donated its time, will produce their findings -- which will include videos, photos, EVPs and other test results -- in this public presentation.

Christoph Strobel will present an interpretive history of the indigenous peoples of New England. This talk will not attempt to provide a comprehensive history, but, rather, by focusing on a few select case studies, historic sketches, and biographies from throughout New England, we will explore the story of Native Americans in the region. While this talk will not turn a blind eye to the horrendous impact that colonization, dispossession, and racism had on the lives of indigenous peoples in New England, it will also emphasize Native American resistance, adaptation, and survival under often harsh and unfavorable circumstances

Bio: Christoph Strobel is Professor of History at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where he teaches various courses in global and Native American history. His most recent book is Native Americans of New England. He is also the author of the Global Atlantic: 1400–1900, The Testing Grounds of Modern Empire, and, co-author with Alice Nash, of Daily Life of Native Americans from Post-Columbian through Nineteenth-Century America.

Why Native Plants Matter : A talk by Heather McCargo, Founder and Seed Program Manager at the Wild Seed Project in Maine.

Native plants are beautiful, important for our local and regional ecosystems and do not need the high nutrient and water inputs of commonly cultivated plants. These qualities make native plant species excellent additions to our gardens!

Heather covers the many reasons we all should care about our region’s native flora and the importance of bringing native plants back into our gardens and developed landscapes. She also discusses current native plant trends and issues in the nursery trade (including cloning and the loss of genetic diversity), and explains how we all can support our native flora by planting seed-grown native plants.

This talk will be presented as a Zoom webinar. Please RSVP to receive the link to the talk. This will also be available for viewing at the Town Offices.

Celebrating the Winter Garden: Landscape horticulturalist Warren Leach, from the Tranquil Lake Nursery in Rehobeth, MA will showcase gardens he has designed to celebrate the winter season and share design ideas for use in your own garden.

Guests are welcome to attend in person if they are fully vaccinated and masks are required. There is a $5 guest fee.
