Honoring a Legend, Friend of Migrant Legal Aid
Dr. Luis Tomatis, renowned Thoracic Surgeon, medical visionary, community leader and author passed away September 29, 2020.  "I am an incorrigible optimist," Dr. Tomatis would say "If you live well and do well, you will leave something. Your passage in this world will be marked by what was left behind." Dr. Tomatis has given his time and talents throughout the world. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gretchen Minnhaar, brother Carlos Tomatis and Sister Bimba Schick. His daughter Gabriela Minnhaar-Tomatis, son-in-law Ted Vecchio and his grandsons Luis Vecchio and Teodoro Vecchio survive him. Dr. Tomatis was born in Rosario, Argentina and moved to Grand Rapids in 1965. He and his wife Gretchen Minhaar were supporters of our work at MLA. For many years our office was in the Minhaar Building. Read about Dr. Tomatis's amazing life here.

Housing & Outreach
2020
Using our COVID-STOP Safety, Transportation, and Outreach Protocol, we were able to complete our 2020 outreach program safely while distributing approximately 2,006 COVID-19 Safety Kits which included: gloves, sanitizer, information resources and . 5,023 masksThanks to donations from you and the community we were able to help our farmworkers.

Donate $5 to provide one farmworker with a safety kit.
Question of the month
How can I help if I do not have money to donate?
One way to help us help migrant farmworkers is to donate new or gently used long-sleeve t-shirts and hoodies. We are always asked for these items when we do outreach. Most needed sizes are men's small and medium. These can be dropped off at our office.
Congratulations Molly!
