compassion, and equality for all.
Mission:
We empower people to live thriving spiritual lives.
From the Minister

Dear Friends,

You may recall how much I love the HBO Series “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel.”

In the current episode, there’s an updated story about 10-year-old Tommy Morrissey—a golf prodigy turned baseball star pitcher. This may not sound all that rare until you realize he’s a golf prodigy turned baseball star pitcher—with only one arm.

This is such a sweet and inspiring story. Why? Because Tommy can do more with one arm than most kids can do with two.

During the interview, correspondent David Scott asks, “What’s your favorite part of baseball?”

And Tommy says, “The hitting because you run the bases, which is really fun! Like when you hit a home run, stepping on home plate is just a great feeling… ‘cause you literally just hit a home run. And a lot of kids can’t do that with one arm.”

Mind you, all this boy-wonder enthusiasm is coming from someone with a batting average of over 500. He once struck out 10 hitters in row!

And so, I’m taking an extra dose of courage and motivation from this young man and I trust you will too. I couldn’t snag the HBO clip, but here’s a short piece about it from one of the local stations.

There is much for which to be hopeful. We are the ones.

In Love and Unity,
Rev. Anne Tabor

This Memorial Day weekend as we honor those who gave their lives in service to the United States, let us remember the importance of commitment to a cause greater than our individual desires. Grounded by faith we can all move into action to make the world we live in a better place. This is the spiritual journey inspired by our commitment to experience Heaven on Earth.
About Tracy:

Guided by Spirit. Groomed to serve. Grown from the practice of prayer. This is Tracy Brown. She was introduced to New Thought in 1986 at Unity of Dallas when Dr. Donald Curtis was the Senior Minister. Now she is dedicated to helping others apply spiritual principles in their daily lives. Tracy is the author of several books including “I Turn to Prayer” and is a frequently requested speaker and teacher throughout the New Thought Movement.
*PLEASE NOTE: In light of the long holiday weekend, and in honor of Memorial Day, Spiritually Speaking will not be gathering after the Sunday service this week. We look forward to seeing you back in the Zoom room on Sunday, June 6th. Thank you!

Memorial Day
Monday, May 31st

Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day. It originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971 to honor those who gave their lives in service. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings, and participating in parades. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of summer.
You've Asked About Re-Opening

A Unity of Arlington task team is working on reopening! Headed up by Becky Rickey, this team is examining all the necessary considerations to begin hybrid services
(in-person and online) as quickly and safely as possible. Others on the task force are Aminia Baruti, Jerko Dabelic, Mike Garvey, Janette Jordan, Peter Lynch, Dian Pierce, Theresa Riggs, Catherine Smith, and Julie West.

Sub-teams have been established to assess costs, safety, technology needs, and what equipment, procedures, and training will be needed. Communication will be ongoing and transparent as the team progresses in its efforts to send comprehensive and practical recommendations to the Board of Trustees for action. Look for news updates in future newsletters.

FOR THE COMMON GOOD

If You Are Fully Vaccinated for Covid-19
and Plan to Travel This Summer...
Source: cdc.gov

Memorial Day is often the start of the summer travel season. The CDC has guidance if you plan to travel.

  • If you travel, you should still take steps to protect yourself and others. You will still be required to wear a mask on planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation traveling into, within, or out of the United States, and in U.S. transportation hubs such as airports and stations. Fully vaccinated international travelers arriving in the United States are still required to get tested 3 days before travel by air into the United States (or show documentation of recovery from COVID-19 in the past 3 months) and should still get tested 3-5 days after their trip.

  • You should still watch out for symptoms of COVID-19, especially if you’ve been around someone who is sick. If you have symptoms of COVID-19, you should get tested and stay home and away from others

  • People who have a condition or are taking medications that weaken the immune system, should talk to their healthcare provider to discuss their activities. They may need to keep taking all precautions to prevent COVID-19.

Reverend Anne Tabor, M.Div., is available by appointment for spiritual counseling sessions at Unity of Arlington in a safe and supportive environment. As an ordained Unity minister, Rev. Anne, offers spiritual counseling to individuals seeking a deeper under-standing of themselves and their divine power within to solve life's challenges. Spiritual counseling can help if there is a need for inspiration, crisis support, or healing in any area of your life. Prayer and meditation are an integral part of Unity's spiritual principles, and an essential practice in realizing the answers we seek. We believe in the transformative power of affirmative prayer. You are a unique expression of God. Spiritual counseling will remind you of that!

Spiritual counseling is offered on a love offering basis. While no specific fee is expected or suggested, we do invite each person to leave a love offering. For more details, please call the church office 817-467-5151.

UNITY'S FIVE BASIC PRINCIPLES

Principle #1:
There is only one Presence and one Power in the Universe and in my life, God the Good.

Principle #2:
Human beings have a spark of divinity within them, the Christ spirit within.
Their essence is of God, and therefore they are also inherently good.

Principle #3:
Human beings create their experiences by the activity of their thinking.
Everything in the manifest realm has its beginning in thought.

Principle #4:
Prayer is creative thinking that heightens the connection with God Mind and therefore brings forth wisdom, healing, prosperity, and everything good.

Principle #5:
Knowing and understanding the laws of life, also called Truth, are not enough.
A person must live the truth he or she knows.
CORE VALUES
Spirit-Led:
Centered in the awareness of God's presence, we turn within for divine guidance in
all we do.

Love:
Love is our True Nature. We express the harmonizing power of love to see good everywhere and in everybody. Love binds together the whole human family.

Diversity:
We believe that all people are created with sacred worth. In a spirit of Unity, we embrace each person as an expression of God grounded in truth and love.

Connection:
We live, love, and laugh from our Oneness with God. We honor our inter-connectedness with each other, with all life, and the earth.

Abundance:
God is our Infinite Source of Good. We gratefully demonstrate prosperity in all areas
of our lives. We wisely use our wealth of resources to serve our spiritual community and the world.

Service:
We cultivate enlightened leadership by practicing the teachings of Jesus the Christ through sacred service. It is a blessing to serve locally and globally.

Integrity:
We consciously choose to practice living our Core Values and Unity Principles rather than simply professing them. We choose to communicate from the heart with authenticity and deliver on our commitments with reliability.
