Dear Marine families, Thank you for reading this weeks newsletter and for continuing to be involved with supporting Marines and their family members at home. June is Post-Traumatic Stress awareness month. It's important to bring awareness to PTSD to and for Marine Corps family members and Marines. We hope you'll take time to read through the articles about PTSD in this weeks newsletter. At the beginning of this month, Veterans Affairs put new changes to the VA Mission Act into effect. These changes will impact the accessibility and quality of health care for Veterans across the country. We're highlighting one of our Team Marine Parents participants, Penny Terwelp, who is raising money for the outreach programs of Marine Parents. What is PTSD? The National Center for PTSD on the VA website defines PTSD as a mental health problem that some people develop after experiencing or witnessing a life-threatening event, like combat, a natural disaster, a car accident, or sexual assault. Seeking out help is important to help with the symptoms of PTSD. The National Center for PTSD has great information to help. Click here to learn more.

PTSD: Staggering Statistics By our estimates, over half of the service members who have served in combat since 9/11 now have or will have critical health needs as a direct result of being deployed to a combat zone. While the statistics are alarming, the aftermath of war and health battles being waged upon return have remained the same for generations. Click here to learn more.

The VA Mission Act The VA Mission Act is designed to improve access for veterans to healthcare at the VA. It addresses in-network and non-VA healthcare issues, veterans' homes, access to walk-in VA care, prescription drug procedures, and much more. There have been some updates with the Mission Act. Beginning June 6, 2019, veterans will have more ways to access health care. This access not only includes providers within the VA's network but also with approved non-VA medical providers in your community, called "community care providers." Click here to learn more .
