Join us This Sunday for In-Person Worship
This Sunday, we are excited to return to indoor worship in the sanctuary at 10:00 am. Everyone is welcome. As we navigate this in-between time and adhere to diocesan protocols, worship will feel a bit different. For example, communion will be administered in one kind (bread only), our bulletins will be online, and we will not pass the plate during the offertory. You do not need to register for worship and masked congregational singing is allowed.
We recognize that our parishioners are moving out of the pandemic at different speeds for a variety of reasons. We are especially cognizant that our valued children are not yet eligible for the vaccine. We will provide space in the sanctuary for those who prefer to remain masked and socially distanced by pod at this time. There will be a communion station available in this space. To welcome back our families in June, children will be invited to process outside at the start of the service to play and hear a special story, with return to the sanctuary for communion. We will not have a nursery at this time. All unvaccinated persons are asked to continue to wear masks and maintain social distancing.
This is a time of great joy as we regather for worship and prayer. We will learn together as we move into this new season together. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
Sunday Services will be Livestreamed
During this time, we have learned the value of connecting across time and space through online worship. Our Sunday morning service will be livestreamed on St. Andrew’s YouTube channel on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. and will be available for later viewing. This is a great option if you are traveling or not yet ready to return to in-person worship. Parish Meetings on Campus Return
Our church campus is reopening to parish groups and committees to meet in the parish hall. It will be up to each group’s leader to ascertain the vaccination status of your group to determine what protocols will fit your people best. We plan to reopen to our community partners in August. If your bible study or small group would like to meet on campus again, please contact Susan Frye at parish@standrewsgso.org.
Renewing our Ministry to Families and Children
As we return to in person worship, we are re-imagining how best to engage families and children. There will be a space in the service reserved for all who want to continue to limit physical contact, socially distance, and wear masks. Communion will be brought to this space. Children will be invited at the start of the service to process out the back of the church for outdoor playground time and a story on Sunday mornings, with a return for communion. There will also be worship bags available each Sunday for children who enjoy keeping their hands busy. At this time, we plan to have a “back to school blessing” in August and to return to Godly Play and full programs for children and youth in the fall.

Food insecurity has not gone away during the pandemic, and the Outreach Committee is pleased to announce that it will resume regular collection of canned goods and nonperishable food items at St. Andrew’s beginning Sunday June 13th.
Each Sunday when you attend the in-person service, please take a burgundy bag from the Narthex. The following week, return the bag with items you are donating, and take another burgundy bag to fill that week.
If you would like to drop off a food donation but will not be attending in-person worship, please contact Doug Sanecki at dpsanecki@gmail.com to coordinate. You may also bring donations to the church during parish office hours on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
We will resume full, onsite distribution to One Step Further Food Pantry, our partner agency, each week going forward. Thank you for remembering to "Bring a Bag and Take a Bag" each week.

The Rev. Maggie Silton, Our Deacon, Opens Us to the Wider World
|
|
The Rev. Maggie Silton is excited about St. Andrew’s. Officially joining us June 1 and serving as a deacon, Maggie has found St. Andrew’s to be a most warm and welcoming place. She brings an added dimension to the work of our congregation by helping us to focus on issues beyond our walls.
“Where a priest’s focus is on inside the church, a deacon offers a bridge to the outside world,” she said. Part of a deacon’s role is to dismiss the congregation at the end of the service, charging them to serve the world, she added.
Maggie has previous ties to St. Andrew’s, as well. She and her daughter attended services here in the past and she baptized two of her granddaughters in our sanctuary. Her relocation to Greensboro from Chapel Hill was prompted by the need to assist her son who was battling ALS in 2018. Following his passing, she continues to offer support to her granddaughters, ages 6 and 8, and their mother.
Maggie hopes to offer support and recognition to those whose ministry is within their families, particularly people who serve as caregivers. She also will offer another voice in the pulpit. Both she and rector Ginny Inman look forward to discerning where God is leading us. In 2019, Maggie wrote this: “What is my ministry? It is a ministry of listening. I offer my ear and my attention to people whose lives often lack both: the poor and the homeless.”
She is married to Andy Silton, a retired money manager and current artist/family historian. She has two adult children and three granddaughters. You can read more about Maggie here.
All of us at St. Andrew’s are glad she’s here. Exciting times are ahead.

There may be tax advantages when making a gift to the church through a financial account, such as a qualified charitable distribution, or a direct stock donation, where you are not exposed to the tax implications from the application of the stock price.
When these contributions are made, the church requests you specify with your financial institution on the memo line that you by name are making the contribution when you plan to have the funds directly deposited into the church's financial account from your financial account. This is better known as an ACH transaction where there is no human interaction with the funds and there is not even a check involved in the transaction. If you do not specify on the memo line in the ACH transaction that you are making this gift, the church has no way of learning who has given the funds. Please review your next giving statement carefully, and contact Ray Marsh if you have given a gift that is not reflected on your statement. Ray is in the office Wednesdays beginning at 1:00 p.m. and can be reached at bookkeeperstagso@gmail.com.

We are so thrilled to worship together again, but this isn't the end of our online worship! We will still be broadcasting every week, and we need volunteers to help make that happen. Volunteers will be given training on how to operate the A/V equipment and will be a vital part of making our worship accessible to as many of God's people as possible. If you are at all interested, contact Robin Hardman at robin@standrewsgso.org. Thank you for your help in spreading the life of St. Andrew's far and wide.
