— DECEMBER 2022 —
All Bluff Heights residents are encouraged to brighten the neighborhood while sharing in the holiday spirit by competing in the 10th annual Bluff Heights Neighborhood Association’s (BHNA) “Celebration of Holiday Lights” contest. Be creative, have lots of fun, and decorate the exterior of your house, condo, or apartment with as much glitz and glow that our judges will need sunglasses!

Members of the BHNA Board will judge this neighborly contest. Judging will take place on Thursday, December 15th, 2022, between 7:30 and 9:00 pm. Please make sure your holiday lights and decorations are turned on by 7:30 pm for your best chance to win. Winners will be notified directly, and photos of their holiday lights may be placed on the BHNA website, newsletter, and social media pages.

Judging Day: December 15, 2022, 7:30–9:00 pm

PRIZES

First prize in each category: $50 gift certificate to a local restaurant

The “Classic Christmas” Prize:
Classic and traditional decorations along with the right amount of lighting that will make outsiders jealous that they don’t live in festive Bluff Heights!
1st prize: $50.00 gift certificate to
Aji Peruvian Cuisine

The “Bluff Griswold” Prize:
Ever since Clark Griswold moved into the Bluff Heights neighborhood, his nickname is now “Bluff!” Think National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Holiday decorations and lighting must be extraordinary, outrageous, and excessive: let it glow, let it glow, let it glow! If America’s new James Webb Space Telescope can pick up the glow from the lights adorning your Bluff Heights residence all the way from outer space, you will most certainly win this prize!
1st prize: $50.00 gift certificate to
Gallagher’s Pub and Grill
2751 E Broadway, Long Beach, CA 90803

The “Balcony Scene” Prize:
Bluff Heights residents in apartments or condos with or without balconies can win this prize, so bling it on!
1st prize: $50.00 gift certificate to
Flamin Curry
3344 E Broadway, Long Beach, CA 90803

(Prizes are non-transferable, non-exchangeable, and have no cash value.)

The City of Long Beach Recognizes Immanuel Place
On November 3, the Bluff Heights Neighborhood Association celebrated with Thomas Saffron and Associates at Immanuel Place, which is a 24-unit apartment building located at 3215 E. 3rd Street. The historic building, which is now 100 years old, once housed the Immanuel Church and was built by W. Horace Austin, who also built the Municipal Auditorium in Long Beach. It was a lovely celebration with the senior residents of Immanuel Place and residents of Bluff Heights. How fortunate we are to have this wonderful senior housing building in our neighborhood.

The Healing Power of Animals

“It was Ripley, my yellow Lab’s, idea,” explains Mihaila “Mihi” Djonova. “I started having anxiety attacks in corporate life, and Ripley started to act as my therapist on his own, like animals do. That’s when I realized the 1 FUR 1 Foundation was needed.”
Holiday Magic at Bembridge House

Bembridge House is an amazing 116-year-old Queen Anne Victorian home right here in Long Beach. Located at 953 Park Circle Drive (Magnolia and 10th), the 1906 home is a registered landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Neighbors in Bluff Heights Mean Everything

My sweet neighbor, Mia, and I met when she was only a year old—how fortunate I am that she lived right next door to us. She recently moved to Washington State with her parents, but we will always be best friends.

Is it Time to Trim your Waste-Line?
It's really simple to trim your "Waste-Line!" All you need to do is collect your e-waste, hazardous waste, and/or old tire waste and bring it to one of three local collection centers under the conditions set by the City of Long Beach on this flyer.
You will feel much lighter now that you took care of those extra notches on your Waste-Line! Doesn't being a loser feel good?
