July 4th Block Party a Roaring Success!
|
By Debbie Gray, July 4 Committee Chairperson and former BHNA Board Member
This past Independence Day, the 15th Annual Block Party on East Vista Street got off to a festive start with a heartwarming rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” by our neighbor Carl Porter. After a two-year hiatus, there was a record turnout for the festivities and a lot of funds were raised for the neighborhood.
The popular event added a decorated bike parade, arts and crafts, and a vintage VW to the lineup. Traditional favorites continued like the patriotic pooch parade, chili contest, the Cake Walk, water balloon toss, and the opportunity drawing.

Bluff Heights Got a Little Tidier with the Clean-Up and Clear-Out Event
The annual BHNA Clean-Up and Clear-Out event was held on June 4 at the Grace Methodist Church parking lot at Junipero and 3rd. A roll-off trash container provided by the city was filled to the brim and a large Salvation Army truck was packed with donations of usable items. The BHNA Board also arranged for a trash truck to roam the neighborhood and collect large unwanted items.
Many thanks to Granny’s Donuts for providing coffee and donuts for the neighbors who worked up an appetite packing their unwanted items and hauling them to the event site. Thanks also to 2nd District Councilwoman Cindy Allen, who stopped in to thank the BHNA Board for organizing the event. The Conservation Corps of Long Beach were also a huge help with unloading the donated and large unwanted items. At the end of the day, the closets and garages in Bluff Heights were a little tidier.
We’ll see you next year when it’s time to tidy up again!

Is it Time to Trim your Waste-Line?
It's really simple to trim your "Waste-Line!" All you need to do is collect your e-waste, hazardous waste, and/or old tire waste and bring it to one of three local collection centers under the conditions set by the City of Long Beach on this flyer.
You will feel much lighter now that you took care of those extra notches on your Waste-Line! Doesn't being a loser feel good?
