2022 Celebration of Holiday Lights Winners
During your opportunity to view all of the festive holiday lights that beautiful Bluff Heights had to offer (such as this home above), we hope you didn’t forget to simply look up! In addition to those who live in single-family homes, there are many apartment and condo dwellers in Bluff Heights who decorate for the holidays. Windows, balconies, and apartment entry doors are all fair game for our holiday decoration contest. Read on to find out who won in each of the three categories of our contest.
Take a look at this balcony (above) located on Colorado Place in Bluff Heights. The holiday spirit is clearly on display here, and so deserving of the Bluff Heights Neighborhood Association’s “Best Balcony” prize: $50.00 Gift Certificate to Flamin Curry ~ Indian Food.

Is there ever too much of a good thing? Clearly this home (below) on the corner of Corto and Obispo doesn’t think so. It displays so much light and color that it rivals the glow of the Las Vegas Strip! Clearly, this home is the winner of the “Bluff Griswold” prize: $50.00 Gift Certificate to Gallagher’s Pub and Grill. The lights are extraordinary, outrageous, and excessive. And yes, the James Webb Telescope did actually pick up the glow from this intergalactic spot in Bluff Heights!
Bluff Heights is a historic district and has homes that are older, classic, and well-made. When decorating for the holidays, some homeowners take a “less is more” approach. It’s this subtle but beautiful holiday display on Mariquita (below) that wins the “Classic Christmas” prize: $50.00 Gift Certificate to Aji Peruvian Cuisine. As the greeting above the entry door indicates, Merry Christmas!
Thanks to all who participated in our holiday lights contest, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store next year!
Bluff Heights Feeds 2022
“Help Me Help You" director Ms. Zina Washington takes photo of Bluff Heights’ Board Member Frank Ginipro (center) and her Support Staffers, showing off the bounty just delivered from our Bluff Heights community.

A BIG thank you to all who donated such a wonderful selection of canned food to the Help Me Help You food pantry. Your donations went directly to the homeless and less fortunate in our Long Beach communities, which is especially important during this holiday season.

The Bluff Heights Neighborhood Association would also like to thank the Bicycle Stand, located on Broadway near Temple, for hosting our pantry box. The Bicycle Stand has been a dedicated supporter of our food drive for many years.
A Healthier, More Balanced You for 2023

Long-term Long Beach resident Elen Lauper wants you to be healthy. She’s the latest addition to the team at Breathe at 3321 E. Broadway, where you will find her on Mondays from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. helping clients heal and maintain their health and balance through acupuncture.
What’s Happening at Mann Elementary?

More than 200 families attended the annual Winterfest event at Horace Mann Elementary School on Thursday, December 15th. Ten tons of snow were brought in for sledding, and kids and families designed ornaments to decorate senior holiday gift bags with Rose Park Neighborhood Association’s ArtWorksLBC program.
A Tiny Bluff Heights Neighborhood Story

This story is not tiny in importance or significance as measured by the amount of happiness it brings. Because it’s the holidays, I hope this story causes you to smile, slow down a bit, enjoy the holiday season, and consider paying it forward by conducting a random act of kindness.
Long Beach Neighborhood Associations Meet Up for Collaboration

Bluff Park Neighborhood Association President Jeff Mallin brought together an array of Long Beach neighborhood associations on Sunday, December 4th in an effort to learn, strategize, and develop stronger inter-association relationships.
We are introducing a new column to the newsletter. Each month we will publish a photograph from our neighborhood. The photo above was taken by Daniel Samson. If you have photos that highlight the beauty and uniqueness of our neighborhood, please send them to info@bluffheights.org

Is it Time to Trim your Waste-Line?
It's really simple to trim your "Waste-Line!" All you need to do is collect your e-waste, hazardous waste, and/or old tire waste and bring it to one of three local collection centers under the conditions set by the City of Long Beach on this flyer.
You will feel much lighter now that you took care of those extra notches on your Waste-Line! Doesn't being a loser feel good?
