Our First Celebration Sunday is this Sunday, August 29
We are launching special Celebration Sundays, which will feature family-friendly worship and a service activity after church for children of all ages! Join us this Sunday for our first Celebration Sunday, with a Back to School Blessing, our School Supply Drive, and Lemonade on the Lawn!
Back to School Blessing at 10
To all our children and youth: School has started, and your St. Andrew’s family is cheering for you! We hope to see you in church this Sunday for a special blessing to keep you safe and strong as you attend class. Until then, here’s a prayer for you:
Circle me, Lord
– the hallways are crowded
Bless me, Lord
– so that I might be a blessing to others.
School Supply Drive
Lemonade on the Lawn
For our first Celebration Sunday, we will gather after church for Lemonade on the lawn, when we will also wrap up our service project by sorting the school supplies for distribution.

Rector Update
Rev. Ginny Inman had surgery last week and will be out for several weeks healing. Some of our wonderful local clergy will be preaching and leading Sunday services during this time. Our senior wardens, Marion Seaman and Sandy Shelton, are available to answer questions or address concerns. For pastoral concerns, please contact Debbie Dowd. Please keep Rev. Ginny and her family in your prayers. If you are wondering how else you can support the Inman family during this time, our CareNet committee is mobilized! Working through this team is the best way to help. Please contact Fran Swan at francinemq53@gmail.com or 336-709-5147 (phone or text) to coordinate. Rev. Ginny’s Celebration of New Ministry has been rescheduled for Sunday, October 10, 2021. Details to follow.

Join Us for Worship
Sundays at 10 a.m.
In-Person and Online
Everyone is welcome. Masks are required for all in attendance. We will continue to offer worship online with a livestream of Sunday’s service.

This Sunday, our own Rev. Barbara Cooke will lead our service as celebrant, and the Rev. Dr. Kate Guthrie will be our guest preacher. Kate has worked in large churches, tiny churches, para-church ministry, and academic institutions. She currently works as a Spiritual Director, meeting with people to discern how God is working in their lives. She is passionate about the intersection of anti-racism and spiritual formation and believes that our inner work is not merely for our own liberation, but for the liberation of all of God’s good creation. Kate lives in Sunset Hills with her husband and two young children.

Fall Formation at St. Andrew’s
Throughout the summer, St. Andrew’s was hard at work planning fall ministry activities, but the recent surge in COVID cases has caused us to reevaluate how to start these parish activities safely. We will continue to gather for masked, in-person worship, but are pushing back fall start dates on some ministries. We have altered our Sunday morning children’s ministry so we can gather outside and will begin EYC in late September. This year, we have added Celebration Sundays (see above). On these special days in our liturgical calendar, we will celebrate our life together in God by focusing on intergenerational worship and service.
Our adult formation offerings are grounded in small groups. We have a number of ways you can grow in faith this fall. Please see our mid-week offerings below. Look for additional ways to engage as disciples of Christ in feeding the hungry, welcoming the stranger, and being transformed by God in the weeks to come. Walk in love.

"Solo, 1 Way / England to France"
She did it!! Brenda Swearingin finished her swim of the English Channel in 13 hours and 3 minutes, on August 21st. (If you don't believe us, ask the Channel Swimming Association.) This has been a dream of Brenda's since she was a teenager, and she overcame many obstacles along the way -- training setbacks, COVID, starting in the dark on the last day available, and jellyfish stings. What an accomplishment and inspiration for all of us. Congratulations, Brenda!

Last Call for Songs
Do you have a favorite hymn? Is there something you have been longing to sing? One of the things we missed most about in-person worship was singing together. Let us know what you want to sing in worship this summer. We will feature congregational favorites through Labor Day. Send your suggestions to Ann Doyle, at ann.doyle1313@gmail.com.
