November 2020
Donors & Grantors
FACT is a local non-profit. We were founded in Virginia Beach and have been serving the Hampton Roads community for more than twenty years. FACT is not an affiliate of a larger entity. We are a grassroots organization that relies on local donors to support our mission, our programs, and the families we serve.

Some of our most generous and loyal supporters are local families and family foundations.
This month we're proud to highlight the DeCroix family, the Rivas Charitable Fund, and the Perry family's Windward Foundation. The philanthropy of these and other families will ensure that FACT programs can endure the negative impact of the pandemic. FACT is incredibly grateful for their moral and financial support.

Movers & Shakers
FACT wants to recognize our Trunk-or-Treat volunteers, who decorated their vehicles and came out to the YMCA at JT's Camp Grom last Friday. More than thirty families with autism were able to celebrate Halloween safely, temperatures were checked, cars were spaced, and everyone wore gloves and masks. Despite all that, the warmth and compassion of the clever trunk decorators shone through. The creativity was off the charts and everyone had a great time.

After the candy was gathered, everyone received colorful handmade masks and school supply kits from the Joan Bourdon Foundation. Finally, everyone found a socially distanced space in the gym and enjoyed a screening of Casper the friendly ghost. It was a wonderful event that couldn't have happened without the small army of movers and shakers who volunteered. Thanks everyone!
Gotta Love This Kid!
Whether he's catching a fish at summer camp, playing kickball, or learning to kayak, Josh Fisher is always giving one hundred percent. Josh's dad says he signed Josh up for kayaking in hopes that it would be an activity they could enjoy together. People with autism are often reluctant to try new things or interact with new people, but Josh is an exception. He may seem reluctant at first, but he pushes through and inevitably masters whatever he attempts. He has excellent imitation skills and a great attitude. It's as if his winning smile propels him to succeed, and that's why Josh is a Kid you gotta love.
November Programs & Events
It's hard to believe that our eight-week Fall programs are already over. Kickball, Kayaking, and Hiking all wrapped up last weekend. Bowling and Fall crafts will continue through November and of course our social programs (Teen Time, Social Club, and Out & About) will continue every month. As the holidays approach, the FACT staff are working hard on our Giving Tuesday fundraising campaign, planning Winter Camp, and designing new programs for 2021.
