Sew in the Know Newsletter!

So..... last newsletter - I let you know I had precut quilt kits coming.... well they came and went before I could advertise them in the newsletter. So it is back to the studio to cut more!

There are a few left - see them here.

(I only have 2 snow man kits left) If you prefer that I deliver a quilt to you let me know which one and I will make it so!

I have been receiving a few full lines of fabric and creating kits for classes around these lines. (Scroll down to see more) In addition to that I have found some great blenders that are very reasonably priced - so if you are looking for some - let me know!

Our quilt show in Bancroft came and went and it was surprising how many people came to buy quilts at the show! I sold 4 quilts! (one was a quilt one of my customers wanted to sell!)

I also attended a few quilt guilds as a presenter. One of my favourite things to do is to show how to take a simple quilt pattern and make several quilts that all look so different. My First Waltz is one of those quilts. It's fast, easy and has no waste AND shows off beautiful fabric. Even seasoned quilters love this pattern.

(I am in the process of moving my patterns to Etsy for purchase - so more people have access to them.)

Finally - I have had a few "Macgyver" moments that solved quilters problems - so read on!

You may even find a freebie offer below - so look for it....

Christmas is coming and I have a few pick up and delivery dates left - so make sure to get your pick up request in now!

It's snowing here today - yes it is... a great day to quilt!

Until next time...

Lists, gifts and gift certificates!

Do you live by lists? I kind of do..... I need to get this done and that done.. you know the drill.

Recently though I was asked what my favourite tools for quilting were. Well I can tell you - I had a list! Actually I had a few lists. After sharing my list - I realized not everyone has some of these great tools that can truly make you a better quilter. How? Cutting accurately is a must! So I decided to make a list for you this month - and another next month - so you could add them to your list!

And while we are busy making and giving gifts this season - don't forget to give your kids, friends or other half YOUR LIST. And give them my email too so I can help them find the gift! I may even have what they are looking for in stock!

Finally, if you have a friend you want to gift the gift of quilting - I have gift certificates where you both win. If you give a gift certificate for quilting to a friend - you also get $25.00 certificate for yourself! You can order that here.

Not everything has to be a quilt....

Ok - who an I trying to kid.... not everything has to be a quilt - but in my world - I like to qulilt as many things as I can get my hands on!

Over the last several weeks I have been working on table runners and placemats, pattern making and thinking about what else I can quilt. Jackets - they are all in the news now - and even bath robes.

Did you know that the toilet tissue "Quilted Northern" even has models on their main web page of women in quilted jackets!

Yes it's true not eveything has to be a quilt - but when you love quilting you say "Why not!"

Bags, pillows, pot holders, bibs, wall hangings, mug rugs, lunch bags, slippers - the list is almost endless.

Table decor, tea cozies, toaster covers and chair covers are still popular items to quilt and adding them to your living area you can change them easily from season to season.

Over the last several years I have had customers send a front and backing fabric to be quilted edge to edge that they turn into table runners, tree skirts and placemats.

If you would like me to quilt fabric for you the cost is lower than if you send a quilt - as it requires less work on my end. And if you see a fabric you absolutely love and want to use it to make a jacket or bathrobe - I can quilt that in a pattern of your choosing.

The turnaround time si only 2 weeks - so get your thinking cap on... what can you make with quilted fabric? Contact me if you would like a quote or some ideas!

Macgyver Moments and a freebie!

"Macgyver" Moments

(To "Macgyver" something means to ingeniously solve a problem or fix something by improvising with whatever materials are at hand. This slang term, popularized by the resourceful character in the TV show MacGyver, involves using everyday objects to create a makeshift solution to an unexpected situation. )

1st Macgyver:

Last week I had a few ladies in my studio buying fabric, and one was looking for special pattern paper. I immediately remembered the Christmas wrapping paper that I had that had 1 inch grid on the back. Perfect! I pulled it out and it was the perfect weight as well. Low cost nonwoven non fusiible light weight interfacing also works well as pattern paper.

2nd Macgyver:

My big, big, (104 x 104) quilt that should have kept us both warm, kept slipping off the bed....yes it happens. Cold bums and tug of wars ensued - yes you have done that too.

I remembered a large piece of wideback I had in my stash that was too small for a quilt but super wide. I took the quit off my bed, safety pinned the bottom edge of the quilt to the fabric and tucked the fabric under the mattress. (It was tucked under about 30 inches).

No more slipping, tugging or cold bums. The quilt bottom wraps the edge of the mattress so safety pins are under the mattress and pose no safety issues.

A Freebie!

Last newsletter I promised to send out a free pattern I have written. (and then I forgot...arghh) If you email me here - I will send the digital pattern out to you free of charge. It's easy to read with lots of pictures!

I used blue and white snowflake fabric, grey and white with blue snowe fabric when making the pattern and it looks so calming. Great to snuiggle under with a bit of hot chocolate.
