 New Hampshire Downloadable Books

The library's subscription to NH Downloadable Books provides patrons access to very expensive content, in a very cost-effective manner. This would be impossible for the library to do alone, and without the wide selection of available titles. Patrons can download e-books, audiobooks, and magazines to their computer, tablet, smartphone or Kindle. Download the Libby for Overdrive app from your device’s App Store.

The Libby app will be used and linked directly to your library card. Be aware that if you are not able to download an item, it may be because you have an overdue book on your account,

or your card has expired.

New Hampshire 1000 Books Before Kindergarten

The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless. Read a book (any book) to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler.
The goal is to read 1,000 books before your little one starts kindergarten- and yes you can repeat books! We know that all kids have favorites! If you read just 1 book a night, you will have read 365 books in a year. By the time they start kindergarten, it's possible to have read 1,825 books together!
Not only will your child benefit from having a larger vocabulary, and more interest in reading, but studies have shown that reading to a child daily is an early indicator of academic success. The bonding time while you read to/with a child is possibly one of the most wonderful benefits!
Do you have questions? Need more logs?
 Please call the library!

Orion Starblast Telescope

Did you know that we have a telescope available for you to check out? Adult patrons in good standing can borrow the telescope for one week. The telescope was donated and is fostered by the NH Astronomical Society, part of the Library Telescope Program. Call for information.

Story Time!

Wednesday at 10:30 AM

We will gobble gobble until we wobble on

Wednesday, November 27, 2024!

Please bundle up! We will head outside since we expect a crowd.

Our Story Time is a fun and interactive program that combines

read-aloud stories, songs, rhymes, flannel boards, and some dancing!

This Story Time is designed for ages 18 month to 5 years, with babies most welcome!

After the activities, we provide a "Stay and Play" component. This is a great opportunity for children to play and moms/dads to meet and mingle.

We will meet inside and then go outside to play if the weather cooperates.

Read to Charlie!

We have a happy new, tail-wagging dog!

Why read to a dog? Because Charlie is friendly and comfy, judgement-free (no pressure!), and he loves the attention of being read to.

Kids will gain more confidence in their reading aloud skills, and enjoy the company of a new friend.

Reading to Dogs is a reading program designed to improve children's reading skills, but also a wonderful opportunity to be with a comfy pet.

Read aloud to Charlie, a registered/certified therapy dog from Therapy Dogs International, Chapter 205.

Children in Grade K-4 who register will have a 20 minute session. Sessions run 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM on the following Thursdays:

Thursday, December 5

Thursday, December 19

If you would like more information, or to register for a session

14 years and up!

FILLED UP!!!!

FYI: At age 94, Dudley is still fully engaged in a 70-year career as a dance caller for local country dances throughout New England.

Dudley has the rare ability to both call a dance while also playing an instrument.

He plays melodeon, harmonica & sometimes, when his fingers allow, his fiddle at old town halls, farmer’s markets, folk festivals, weddings, barn dances, kitchen junkets and for the Canterbury morris dance team.

Although this is not a library sponsored event, we are happy to share the details and might even see you on the dance floor.

Chair Yoga update...

We are sorry to announce that Sherry is dealing with an injury and is unable to teach class for some time.

All chair yoga sessions and restorative yoga class in December have been cancelled. We will keep you posted... in the meantime, I am working out some details on a few programs that might fill this terrible void in our schedule.

Coming soon!

Covered Bridges of New Hampshire: Past and Present

Presented by Kim Varney Chandler

Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at 6:30 PM,

Upper Town Hall

New Hampshire was once home to over 300 covered bridges. Today, there are over sixty authentic covered bridges in New Hampshire, forty-six of which are over a century old. These bridges exist solely because of the efforts of a small but powerful community that both recognized their significance and honored their tradition. Join author and photographer Kim Varney Chandler as she shares an overview of covered bridges in the Granite State, along with interesting facts she uncovered while researching her 2022 book, Covered Bridges of New Hampshire. Learn more about both existing and lost covered bridges in your area.

Robert Frost On the Farm: New Hampshire Farming as told by the poet.

Presented by Jeff Zygmont

Tuesday, March 25, 2025

6:30 PM Upper Town Hall

While it makes spoken words sing like sauntering music, Robert Frost’s poetry can also help us appreciate the rigor of life on a New England farm in the early 20th century. (Hint: It was hard.) In an exploration of both New Hampshire history and Frost’s poetry, author and poet Jeffrey Zygmont recites a selection of Frost’s poems about farming. Alongside each recitation, he provides background on Frost’s life, offering insight into the poem’s origins, and commentary on the work’s artistic beauty, as well as the experiences and emotions it expresses. Participants will join a lively discussion celebrating Robert Frost’s unique gift for capturing farm life in poetry.
