Hello,
I’ve been a member of SEJ since the early 2000s. In this organization of journalism leaders, many stand out.
So many environmental stories are depressing. Telling a downbeat story so that we want to read, listen, or watch anyway takes talent and insight, into the story as well as the audience. Sharon Guynup has told the stories of tigers and other wildlife so beautifully that readers and viewers are uplifted, even by tragic tales. Tigers are one of the most iconic species, burning bright in William Blake's forests of the night. They have always inspired awe. Sharon goes beyond awe to the issues that threaten them.
Sharon’s work takes her into dangerous worlds of wildlife exploitation that would otherwise be hidden. Exposing the criminals who prey on these mighty animals has led to efforts to save them, and, with them, the world we all inhabit. Sharon is a true environmental journalism hero.
Please join me in acknowledging your journalism hero using #HonoringTheHeroes. Make a donation to SEJ in their name to add them to SEJ's Wall of Heroes. Those funds will go toward the valuable programs and resources that SEJ provides journalists, and your shoutout will surely bring joy to someone you admire.
Thank you,
Christine Heinrichs
