Reverend Dr. Robert C. Scott is the speaker for this service which marks the beginning of the academic year and is a time when the Seminary community joins together asking God’s guidance throughout the coming academic year. It is also a time that new students sign their names in a document which serves as a part of the historical record of the Seminary. The public is invited to attend the service.
The service will be preceded by a heavy hors d'oeuvre reception in The Aymer Center from 5:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Endowed Premier Scholarships
HTS is pleased to announce the Bishop James Walker Hood Endowed Premier Scholarship Fund which awards scholarships to new and current full-time students
on a competitive basis to those who exemplify academic excellence. The level of scholarship assistance depends on the quality of your academic record and the availability of funds.
Criteria:
Applicants must maintain a 3.3 GPA or higher per academic year, should exhibit leadership in the church and/or community, and should embrace the vision of effective ministry in a diverse and global society. Scholarships are awarded only to degree-seeking students.

, MDiv '18, graciously donated this painting to the Seminary. Aaron said, "
As a part of my final project for Dr. Mary Love's "CE in the Arts" class, I worked with a local artist from Lexington, NC, to bring to life a "Faith Versus Fear" painting. The artwork is unique because the canvas is actually five sheets of Skateboard griptape put together.
The local artist (Gina) from So Stoked Skateshop of Lexington helped me transpose the ending of Mark's Gospel (Mark 16:1-8) onto skateboard griptape. Inspiration for the text was from Dr. Resner's class entitled "Reading Mark for Preaching Gospel." My dream for future ministry in the Methodist Church and Church Universal is with the marginalized Skateboard community, in which Faith will have the final work over Fear."

Dr. Zenobia B. Fennell
who has joined the faculty as
Adjunct Professor of Pastoral Theology
.
Dr. Fennell is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a B. A. in Political Science. She earned a Master of Divinity degree at the Wake Forest School of Divinity where she was named the 2007 recipient of The Ashley and Whitney Walker Award, an honor given to students who demonstrate academic excellence with a particular concern for woman-centered issues. She continued her theological training by earning a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in 2017 with a concentration in leadership development, and studied ways in which faith communities can effectively develop leaders via the use of pastoral care modalities.

Dr. Sharon Grant
, Assistant Professor of the History of Christianity,
traveled to the 2018 World Methodist Council meeting in Seoul, South Korea. The WMC convened from July 12-16. The Council focused on Peace and Reconciliation on the Korean peninsula and moving toward consensus based discernment.
Professor Grant is a delegate for the 2016- 2021 Quinquennium from the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She works with the Theological Education Committee chaired by Dr. Paul Swarup of the Methodist Church in India (pictured above with Dr. Grant).

will participate in the 14th Oxford Institute of Methodist Theological Studies August 12-19 at Pembroke College of Oxford University in Oxford, England. This important gathering of top professionals in the field is held once every five years and is sponsored by the British Methodist Church and the World Methodist Council. Dreff is assigned to the working group on Methodist History and Grinter to the Biblical Studies working group.
