A FEW THOUGHTS ON INNOVATION FROM JAY BUSSELLE:
As it relates to business and branding, I always hear the word innovation. I think it’s getting overused, and I’m not happy about it.
What innovation isn’t -
Predictably communicating in the same way and within rigid boundaries.
Status quo and linear thinking. “We always do it this way.” A leads to B, which leads to C.
Copying traditional approaches because that’s what others are doing, and it’s safe.
What innovation is -
Building a place where fresh, creative ideas are shared. Brainstorming. Collaborating.
Challenging yourself and your team with bigger ideas. Take more risks.
Creating and showcasing distinct differentiation in design, products, and service so that it renders competitors nearly useless.
Innovation refuses to follow the leader. Innovation can change the game with a new approach. It challenges assumptions and pushes people to think in new ways and to find new solutions.
In her book FASCINATE, Sally Hogshead said
“Innovation is the language of creativity.”
