Engaging with Humanities Research

While research is commonly associated with STEM subjects, Humanities research thrives at UW. As a UW student, you have access to special programs only available to UW as an R-1 Flagship university, as well as expert faculty who regularly engage in research in their fields.

Interested in getting started with Humanities research? Check out these options:

  • Summer Institute of Arts & Humanities: Specifically designed for Arts and Humanities students, SIAH gives students the opportunity to spend summer quarter creating a research paper/project that is presented at a closing symposium. Learn more here.
  • Departmental Honors Programs: Many departmental Honors programs require students to engage in original research under faculty supervision. Check departmental websites to learn about your department's Honors program's requirements.
  • Research Cafe: Hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Research, attend the "cafe" in MGH Suite 171 on every first Friday of the month for free donuts and coffee, as well as to build connections and learn how to start your research. Learn more here.
  • Undergraduate Research Symposium: Taking place every spring quarter, this symposium is open to all undergrad students to present original research under faculty supervision. Learn more by visiting the URS website or an info session.
