Programming

February burst to life with a vibrant celebration of creativity, focusing on the artistic legacies of Clementine Hunter and Jean-Michel Basquiat, while also embracing the spirit of love for Valentine’s Day. Students poured their hearts into a variety of expressive projects. UMB Community Engagement Center student artists created intricate mosaic hearts while Robert Coleman Elementary, students proudly celebrated a milestone—the 100th day of school—by dressing up as cheerful centenarians!

Enhancing the month’s festivities, the Programming team hosted a delightful "PAL-entine’s Day" gathering for the wonderful alumni of Art with a Heart's internship program. Current and former interns came together to enjoy refreshing drinks, delectable treats, and a community art project, all aimed at strengthening connections and fostering a vibrant network of emerging young professionals.

Community Art and Service

The Community Art and Service team has been diligently collaborating with volunteers and service groups to make significant progress on two remarkable projects: T. Rowe Price's stunning 13-foot by 7-foot mosaic for their new Harbor East office space, and a 12-foot by 7-foot sculpture of a horse and jockey for installation in the Park Heights community.

This month, the team had the joy of hosting two engaging workshops at T. Rowe Price's offices, inviting stakeholders to unleash their creativity and contribute to this vibrant artwork! In tandem, the Community Art and Service engaged residents from the Park Heights community at the Zeta Center for Healthy Aging, where they collaborated on mosaic panels for the horse sculpture, and helped craft and glaze ceramic tiles for the project.

HeARTworks/HeARTwares

February was an exhilarating month at HeARTworks! We proudly welcomed back the Baltimore Transition Connection (BTC) students, with 20 enthusiastic young artists eager to engage in weekly hands-on visual and digital art projects. Our team also participated in interviews with students from the Bridges program, with hopes of inviting several to join us through Youthworks this summer. To cap off the month, the HeARTworks and HeARTwares teams visited The Academy for College and Career Exploration (ACCE) to present opportunities for students to intern, volunteer, and even work at our vibrant location on The Avenue. The presentation concluded with an interactive session where students created their own collages for a potential store product! Exciting times are ahead!

Art of Leadership

Cohort 11 recently visited the National Federation of the Blind as part of their Disability Awareness session. Guided by blind volunteers, leaders participated in hands-on activities while wearing learning shades to simulate blindness. They engaged in tasks such as walking with a cane, cooking, using technology, and learning Braille. A few parents of the students joined, making the experience even more enjoyable!

Thank you Volunteers!
