”About six months before I came to Camp Hope,
I had my 14th friend commit suicide
from our Afghanistan deployment and I went on a downward spiral really fast over the six months...I was in a very bad place.” (Bobby, Camp Hope program resident)
What if we had not been here for this combat Veteran? What if we didn't have the program, the peers who've already gone through the program, and now remain to serve? What if we didn't have the place? Would Bobby have been #15?
Recently the head of the trauma department of a California hospital stated, "We've never seen numbers like this, in such a short period of time," he said. "I mean we've seen a year's worth of suicide attempts in the last four weeks."
Our mission is now more critical than ever and we are serving a record number of Veterans from across the country. We have brought in additional temporary housing this week, thanks to our friends at
Cotton Logistics.
This helps us at a critical time so that we can keep our commitment to never turn away a Veteran due to lack of beds.
Frankly, we need your help. Can you give $1 a day? It's easy to set up a $30 recurring monthly contribution. Together, we must ensure this program, these peer mentors, and this place is here for every Bobby that comes our way.
