Programming

Programming began the new year with students embracing their creativity through winter-themed art projects. These included making larger-than-life snowflakes and creating nesting owl portraits. Additionally, students honed their braiding skills for a fairytale installation, which will be featured at Child First Authority's "Show What You Know" showcase this spring. Adding to the excitement of the new year, the programming team installed a mosaic at Spark Academy at Patterson Park Public Charter School. This vibrant piece was created by talented students and serves as a lasting symbol for their school community.

Community Service and Public Art

The Community Art and Service team had an exciting month! With the help of community volunteers and hospital staff, the team completed a stunning mixed media installation for Mercy Medical Center's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The team also started two new, large-scale community art projects - a 13 foot mosaic for T. Rowe Price's new Harbor East office space and a 12 foot sculptural horse for installation in the Park Heights community. Both projects will engage hundreds of community members in the artistic process.

Additionally, the team was thrilled to attend the birthday party for the late Elijah Cummings, where guests of all ages embellished wooden shims with messages of their hope and inspiration. The finished shims will be assembled and installed, creating a meaningful wall hanging for the offices of the Elijah Cummings Youth Program.

Impressionists!

Each month, Art with a Heart's young professional group, The Impressionists, meets at Art with a Heart's office in Mill No.1 to lend a hand with organizational needs - everything from organizing materials and assembling classroom materials, to assisting with community art projects and much more! If you or someone you know is looking for a fun, low-key way to volunteer, reach out to Amy Langrehr at amylangrehr@artwithaheart.net. These monthly gatherings are a great way to connect with peers and do meaningful volunteering at the same time. Join us on the fourth Thursday each month from 5:30pm – 7:30pm.

Art of Leadership

Cohort 10 visited the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center as part of their session on health disparities. Students learned about the Center's history, the concept of the "Golden Hour" - the critical time frame to save someone with a sudden traumatic injury - and all the interventions that occur within that time frame. The visit also included a Teen Safe Driving talk, a Stop the Bleed training (through which students earned certification to stop life-threatening bleeding), and a tour of the Shock Trauma Center.

Thank you Volunteers!
