The Art with a Heart Legacy!
In a recent staff meeting, the team was extolling their backgrounds within the organization and it became uniquely clear that over half the team brings a rich history and experience to their Art with a Heart positions:

Christina Ralls, Jake Parchem, Christopher Duffy, and Sofie Benson all started as Art with a Heart teachers. Megan Gatto, Anna Montagnese and Clifton Denby all started as Art with a Heart college interns. Klause Ferrell and Kristina Harlee were participants in the Workforce Development program. Tyler DuBose was a student in Art with a Heart’s first Art of Leadership Cohort, and Matt Mitchell was a dedicated volunteer. Art with a Heart is grateful for these committed team members and appreciates the foundational experiences they bring to their work.

Programming
Students from across Baltimore participated in a full day of art-making adventures as part of Baltimore City Public School's "Find Your Way to Pre-K" series. Parents and families learned about Pre-K enrollment options and then created artwork with Art with a Heart, practicing fine motor skills, scissor skills, counting and color mixing!

For the second year, Art with a Heart planned and organized Child First Authority's Annual "Show What You Know" on May 24 at Coppin State University. Over 800 parents, students, teachers, partners, and supporters attended the academic and visual art presentations. The participating students hail from 13 local schools in twelve different Baltimore City neighborhoods who participate in Child First programs.

Students in Art with a Heart classes at William Paca Elementary School learned about artist Salvador Dali and created artwork inspired by the elephants in his dream paintings. And let's not forget about the Elev8 students at Collington Square Elementary Middle School who started work this month on their identity masks.
Special Projects
In May, Art with a Heart's Special Project's team worked with the students at City Neighbors Charter School to complete a mural encouraging environmental stewardship and the diverse ecology of Maryland. Students in grades 5 and 8 painted insects, animals, fish, and other aquatic life to adorn the mural. The students also helped prime the wall and painted the background sky and water before Art with a Heart volunteers completed the foliage and grayscale hands. The final installation is a colorful celebration of the beauty of the natural world and the students' passion for protecting it!
Community Service and Public Art
This month, the Community Service and Public Art team launched the fourth Weinberg Foundation sculpture project - right here in Owings Mills. The 9ft sculpture will incorporate design elements of each of the three sculptures created in Ashkelon, Israel. This project is moving fast so check our Facebook and Instagram stories for updated pictures!

Work also continued on the community mosaic project for Beth El Congregation! To date, over 300 individuals of all ages have participated in workshops to bring this installation to fruition.

Washington Farmers Market on Sunday, June 4th from 10am to 2pm,

The Mother’s Day Paint, Plant & Take was a blast! Look out for more fun workshops and events... including our annual end of the summer celebration and sale!

A big shout out to the graduating high school seniors who have completed their internships and apprenticeships at Heartwares this past year! Wishing these phenomenal students success in their college experience!
Art of Leadership
The Art of Leadership Cohort 8 is finishing the program year on a literal and figurative high note! The leaders spent a great day at Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound School, tackling the high ropes course, enjoying team challenges, and practicing personal reflection.

Workshops for the Capstone Public Art Project also took place at Art with a Heart, and at the Baltimore Convention Center. Students were joined by staff from the Convention Center and University of Maryland Medical Center, who developed and managed the Baltimore Convention Center Field Hospital during the pandemic. This project and installation will honor these hardworking individuals.
