Happenings!

This month, Art with a Heart was thrilled to be featured on WBAL TV. Deputy Director, Megan Gatto was interviewed about a collaborative community art project completed with students from "Teen Testimonials," a program that focuses on middle and high school students who are new to the area. Art with a Heart helped the students think about, and then artistically create, what a safe and welcoming community looks like. For more of the interview, click here.

Trunk or Treat!

The Art with a Heart team had a great time at the St. Athanasius Catholic Church Community Outreach Day! Children (and mascots) of all ages joined Art with a Heart in making Halloween masks with fun embellishments to choose from: feathers, beads, fabric and more!

Programming

Fall is here! With the new season, Art with a Heart students of all ages continued to learn new and exciting art methods with a broad variety of mediums. The youngest Art with a Heart students spent time learning and practicing their scissor skills while older students worked to create beautiful beaded butterfly pins with an emphasis on detail and dexterity. Throughout the City, Art with a Heart students were engaged in an enriching, educational and engaging curriculum.Take a look!

Special Projects

During the month of October, students at Lois T. Murray Elementary/Middle School worked with Art with a Heart staff and volunteers to explore mandalas and create clay elements that will be assembled into a large beautification piece for their school. Each student created dozens of textured clay pieces in various shapes and sizes. The students at Lois T. Murray have special cognitive needs, and they were able to share this art experience with their aides and para-educators during the Art with a Heart residency in an environment that was safe, familiar, and FUN!

Art of Leadership

October was a busy month for Art of Leadership students. At the beginning of the month, the leaders enjoyed watching the Charm City Documentary and then meeting with the individuals featured in the film. Students said that their favorite part of the session was having discussions with Clayton Guyton (Mr. C), Ms. Dee, Walker Gladden, and Colonel Monique Brown.

On October 22nd, The Art of Leadership students enjoyed a fantastic retreat at Terrapin Adventures! Leaders challenged their communication and strategy skills during the ropes course challenges, rode the zip line and giant swing, and encouraged each other while climbing the Terrapin Tower. Students enjoyed getting to know each other better and building bonds, which continue to grow and flourish.

Community Art

This month saw the completion of the Catholic Charities sculptural installation on its main campus in Timonium, Maryland. The sculpture was created hundreds of stakeholders of Catholic Charities, Art with a Heart volunteers, interns, and students. Thank you to Catholic Charities for the opportunity to commemorate the organization's 100th Anniversary in this collaborative and artistic manner.

Thank You Volunteers!
