Emirati artist Najat Makki, holder of a PhD in metal coins from the Faculty of Arts in Cairo in 2001, is one of the leading artists of modern art movement in the UAE and identified as one of the pioneer Emirati women artists.

Makki experimented with different media and developed a passion for painting and sculpture. Her work was greatly influenced by her surroundings and traditions, with a clear visual reference to her family's interest in embroidery and fabrics.

For the first time Najat Makki shows her new work from the recent artist in residence program in Paris, France, which was awarded to her by Emirates Foundation, Abu Dhabi, between May and August 2012. Makki was inspired by the presence of international artists in the "Cite Internationale des Arts", Paris and the cultural environment of the capital of France.

Najat Makki received many awards, some of which are: The Award of Culture and Art from the UAE 2008, Al Owais Award of Culture and Science in Dubai 2010, and the Silver Award from Mahaba Biennial in Syria 1999. In 2010 and 2012 she represented the UAE at the International Biennial in Peking.

Swiss artist living and working in Geneva, Switzerland

Peter Stoffel works with painting, installation and various other media. His paintings are gorgeous, fictitious mountain panoramas shrewdly referring to his Herisau origins, tucked away in the mythical epicentre of alpine Switzerland.

In   his more socio-politically reflexive work, where he resorts to anything from T-shirts to neon lights to newspaper announcements, Stoffel is the kind of artist who can pull off eminently pathos-laden questions of exploitation and exoticism without ever looking sensationalist, didactic or even heavy handed. Moreover, Stoffel is also an organizer, being one of the key figures behind the "Appenzell Biennial" project, an exclusivist, heartfelt and yet strategically sardonic take on the biennial industries. In collaboration with his partner, the artist Solvej Dufour Andersen, Stoffel is the founding figure behind "planet 22", a minuscule art space in the doorway of a squat in Geneva, which, over its ten year existence, has hosted an impressive array of artists and projects.
