Important Updates

Dear International Students,

Presidential Proclamation of June 4, 2025: Restricting The Entry of Foreign Nationals to Protect the United States from Foreign Terrorists and Other National Security and Public Safety Threats establishes a "full" travel ban on 12 countries and a "partial" travel ban on 7 countries, effective 12:01 am eastern daylight time on June 9, 2025. For a summary and details, see NAFSA's page

The 12 countries affected by the travel ban are: Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. The partial ban affects 7 countries: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.

What is a U. S. travel ban?

A travel ban restricts or prohibits individuals from certain countries who are outside the U.S. from entering into the U.S.

What impact does a travel ban have?

A travel ban can have significant consequences for individuals, families, and communities impacted by the restrictions. We encourage you to download the TimelyCare app from the Apple Store or Google Play and register with your SIUE email. TimelyCare can provide trained interpreters in over 240 languages. You may also contact SIUE’s Counseling and Health Services Team for support during difficult times.

Current students who are already inside the U.S. on an F-1 or J-1 student visa are advised not to travel internationally. For additional information regarding traveling, please see the International Students and Scholars list of FAQs.
