From the Office of Information Technology Services:

Starting on April 6, 2026, Queens College will transition all active student email accounts to a different configuration as part of a CUNY-wide initiative to simplify email management. This change will enable seamless sharing and collaboration across all Microsoft 365 products and strengthen protections against cyberattacks. The transition is scheduled for completion by April 13, 2026.

What Is Changing?

Each active student will receive the following emails: 

• Firstname.Lastname##@stu-mail.qc.cuny.edu - your new Queens College email address (e.g., Jane.Doe99@stu-mail.qc.cuny.edu)
• Firstname.Lastname##@cuny.edu - your new CUNY email address (e.g., Jane.Doe99@cuny.edu)

These will be your official Queens College email addresses going forward.

One Mailbox for All Accounts

You will have one Microsoft 365 email mailbox, even if you are associated with more than one CUNY school or role.

• Emails sent to any of your CUNY student email addresses will arrive in one inbox
• You can send emails using your @stu-mail.qc.cuny.edu address (and other associated CUNY addresses, if applicable)

For Current Student Email Accounts 

You will continue to have access to your current @qmail.cuny.edu email account during the transition.

• New emails sent to your @qmail.cuny.edu address will be automatically forwarded to your new CUNY mailbox
• An automatic reply will notify senders of your new email address
• Your existing email messages will be imported into your new mailbox

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Required

When your new email account is active, you will be required to use Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to access:

• Your Queens College student email
• Microsoft 365 apps such as Outlook, OneDrive, and Teams

Please note:

• Microsoft MFA is only for Microsoft 365 services and products
• Microsoft MFA is separate from the CUNY Login MFA, which is used for CUNYfirst, Brightspace, and other systems

Please set up Microsoft MFA as soon as possible to avoid delays when your new email account becomes active.

What Should I do Now?

We recommend that you:

• Continue checking your current Queens College email regularly for updates
• Set up Microsoft MFA for your new student email account when the new account is created
• Take note of services or accounts where you use your current email address, so you can update them later
• Review and clean up your existing mailbox (save important files to OneDrive or another location)
