The Long Island legal community mourns the tragic passing of the Hon. Sandra J. Feuerstein on April 9, 2021 in Boca Raton, Fl. Judge Feuerstein is survived by her beloved family, sons Adam Feuerstein and Seth Feuerstein, her daughters-in-law Karen Feuerstein and Sharon Feuerstein, and her grandchildren Jacob, Arielle, Joshua, and Jonah. Judge Feuerstein is also mourned by her longtime companion, Past President Harvey B. Besunder, and his children Alison Arden Besunder and Eric Besunder.
The legal community is invited to pay their respects to the Feuerstein family at the Besunder residence at 40 Caleb Brewster Road, East Setauket, NY 11733, on Wednesday, April 14th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Judge Feuerstein dedicated her life to public service, first as a public school teacher and then as a Nassau County District Judge, elected to State Supreme Court, appointed to the Appellate Division, Second Department, and then appointed to the United States District Court, Eastern District of New York by President George W. Bush in 2003. Judge Feuerstein and her mother, New York Immigration Court Judge Annette Elstein, were the first mother-daughter judges in the country.
Judge Feuerstein's children are in the process of establishing a scholarship at Cardozo Law School in Judge Feuerstein's honor and memory.
