The first day of school is around the corner!


Thank you all for helping make the 2021-2022 school year a success. I hope that each of you took some time to unwind, reflect and prepare for the 2022-2023 school year.


I'm excited to see all of our new team members this fall! I hope that you will join me in welcoming them to the BCS family! Because we're always looking to hire quality talent, we'll be hosting our second annual Fall Recruitment Tailgate on September 10th - keep reading for more details!

As a reminder, BCS uses Frontline to manage time and attendance. Employees are able to manage their own time by clocking in/out through Time & Attendance or schedule an absence through Absence Management.

  3. Complete Leave of Absence form (Principal/Hiring Manager signature) ​
  4. Submit leave request form to Human Resources


Family Medical Leave of Absence

  1. Notify Principal​
  2. Submit request through eFMLA (BCS Website)​
  3. Complete FMLA leave form (Principal signature)​

DRESS CODE EXPECTATIONS


Employees are required to report to work or to school functions in attire that is appropriate to their position. Our professional appearance should be one that enhances our primary goal of student learning and achievement. Service and other employees who are issued uniforms shall wear uniforms when required.


All employees should exhibit a professional appearance in a manner and style in accordance with the following guidelines set forth by the District. Appropriate dress includes, but is not limited to:

  • Business suits/coordinated pant suits
  • Collared shirts with and without ties
  • Skirts
  • Dresses
  • Slacks
  • Sweaters, blouses, knit tops, jackets
  • Sweatshirts and tee shirts with school insignia (on approved days by administration)
  • Appropriate shoes
  • Attire in accordance with the environmental requirements for specific job assignments


The following shall not be acceptable at any time from any employee.

  • Frayed, torn and/or extremely faded pants
  • Clothes with stamps that are offensive or inappropriate
  • Clothes with profane or vulgar sayings or images, including innuendo, or messages that are inconsistent with the District’s mission
  • Flip flops
  • Clothes that are too revealing

Be sure to review our Board Policies and Employee Handbook before the school year begins! Both include our governing policies and procedures that are in place to guide us as employees of Birmingham City Schools. Scan each QR code to review them and refer to them as necessary.

Benefits & Open Enrollment

Open Enrollment is July 1, 2022 - August 31, 2022! Make sure your insurance information is up-to-date. If you need to update the beneficiary on your free policy with Minnesota Life provided by the Board, contact the Insurance Department at 205-231-4723 or 205-231-9885 to set an appointment to come into the office to make changes.

BCS is Going Digital with PowerSchool TalentED

Human Resources launched PowerSchool TalentED on August 1st for WAVE I resources!


We'll be using two applications within the TalentED Suite:


RECORDS -  a checklists and digital employee records management system that will help us simplify processes online, such as onboarding, back-to-school preparations, and employee leave and exits.


PERFORM – provides the tools needed to support employee evaluations, peer reviews, self-assessments, growth plans.

PSLF Waiver Offers Way to Get Closer to Loan Forgiveness

On Oct. 6, 2021, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced a change to Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program rules for a limited time as a result of the COVID-19 emergency. Throughout the emergency, ED has provided a variety of benefits to borrowers.


Now, for a limited time, borrowers may receive credit for past periods of repayment that would otherwise not qualify for PSLF.
