RISING HIGH IN THE
CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE:
Reggae Band JAH PEOPLE Debuts RISING HIGH LP In Time For The Summer Heat With Title Track Featuring FREEWAY
[PHILADELPHIA, PA] Rising high above the competition...rising high on hazy island vibes...rising high on righteous reggae music that just feels good. RISING HIGH is the right title at the right time for JAH PEOPLE, Philly's reggae and roots band known for moving the crowd with their groove-laced sets that include their unique interpretations of primary inspiration, Bob Marley.
JAH PEOPLE's debut album RISING HIGH, released today, June 16, on iTunes, is a refreshing, 8-track love letter to reggae from the multi-cultured and multi-talented ensemble. With just a touch of Marley on the universally loved "EXODUS" remake, the band takes their melodic messages of love and good vibes to higher heights with mostly original music on the LP.
Co-founded in 2012 by guitarist, vocalist, and well known "Philly pawn star" Dean Rubenstein, JAH PEOPLE, with its five groovy men to one soulful woman ratio, is plotting to capture new fans via RISING HIGH and a newly relaunched website at www.jah-people.com. Toss in the fact that the soulful sextet writes, rehearses, and records in a pawnshop on a grittier side of Philly, and JAH PEOPLE'S is a story (and an album) worth listening to.
Though they're known in the tri-state region for their energetic, sing-along friendly sets, on RISING HIGH, the band takes some daring dives across genres, boasting an unlikely but welcome reggae/rap crossover with Philly rap legend FREEWAY on the LP's title track, "Rising High".
The remaining tracks are soulful and peppered with island flavor, "reggae-fied" in a way that JAH PEOPLE believes only they can pull off. Look to Big Dean as the gentle giant that tows the line, Alesia Desau's stand out vocals on "Surrogate Lover" and massive blessings from legend RAS PROFESSOR on "Take Your Time" as examples of what the LP has in store...

ABOUT JAH PEOPLE: Roots. Rock. Reggae. #PhillyStyle
As an entity, Philadelphia-based reggae band JAH PEOPLE looks like what one might achieve when crossing the diversity of a United Colors of Benetton ad with the dankest, cheeba-filled juke joint of Kingston, Jamaica. They are individual personalities and talents within their own right - Dean Rubenstein, Alesia Dessau, Noah Sokoloff, Andrew Walls, Mike Stankus, and Josh Klein - tightly wrapped by their love of music like a well-rolled spliff.
In May 2015, JAH PEOPLE blesses the fans with RISING HIGH. the band's first original album including an infectiously brilliant update of Marley's "Exodus", along with a special guest appearance from Philadelphia rap legend FREEWAY on the title track, "Rising High", reggae legend Ras Professor, and much more.
