I hope that you all enjoyed a wonderful holiday season with friends and family members! This past month has seen a number of minor snow and ice events, so it is a good time to review the Village’s snow regulations, which are included later on in this newsletter. Please remember to also check in regularly with the Village’s social media accounts before, during and after storm events for important news and updates.
On December 18, 2024, the Village Board unanimously issued a special permit to WBP Development LLC for the construction of a 100-unit multifamily building at 1 Croton Point Avenue (Lot A). The project now moves to the Village Planning Board, who will begin their review under the site plan approval process. Residents interested in following this process should sign up on the Village website to receive the Planning Board meeting agendas by email. Information will also continue to be posted on the project page on the Village website.
Village staff have already begun the preparations for the 2025-2026 fiscal year budget. The tentative budget for the upcoming year will be filed in the office of the Village Clerk on March 20, 2025, as required by law. Between now and then, I will be working closely with the Village Treasurer and our department heads to develop a spending plan for the upcoming year. The public hearing on the 2025-2026 budget will be held on March 26, 2025, at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building. At the most recent Village Board meeting, the results of the 2023-2024 fiscal year audit were presented. The Village ended the year on May 31, 2024, with a surplus of $442,673, which can be added to the Village’s healthy fund balance for future use on capital projects. The fund balance can also be used to help balance the upcoming 2025-2026 budget, which could help to reduce any potential tax increase.

Election Results for Croton Fire Department and Croton EMS
The Croton-on-Hudson Volunteer Fire Department held their annual election in December. The members of the fire department elected Phil Dinkler as Chief of Department, Chris Colombo as First Assistant Chief and Chris Caterino as Second Assistant Chief.
The Croton Emergency Medical Services also elected their slate of officers for the upcoming year. The following officers were elected: Tiffany Gilleo as Captain, John Delaney Jr. as First Lieutenant, and Stacy Conklin as Second Lieutenant.
The Village extends congratulations to the officers of both organizations and thanks all our volunteers for their service!

Some Not-Snow-Fun Reminders...
A friendly reminder that the Village Code requires the clearing of snow and ice from the full width of the sidewalk 12 hours after the cessation of snowfall. The Village will declare an official end time to each storm, which will be posted on the Village website and social media. Residents can sign up to receive Snow Alerts via email by registering here.
The Village thanks you in advance for clearing your sidewalk of snow and ice — doing so creates a safer environment for our pedestrians and especially children who walk to school. Sidewalks not cleared after the prescribed 12 hours will be cleared by the Village’s contractor. Property owners will be billed for this service. Any bills which remain unpaid shall be levied to the property owner’s Village tax bill.
In order to facilitate keeping our streets clear of snow and ice, no parking is allowed on any Village street when there is 2 or more inches of snow. For residents that have no viable off-street parking, Village municipal lots are available for parking. Seasonal hardship parking permits are also available for those who qualify. Hardship permit holders shall move their vehicles no later than 12 hours after the snow stops. For more information on the above, please call the Village office at 914-271-4781.
| Village Welcomes New Code Enforcement Officer |
No Heat Issues
Residents who live in rental units within the Village boundaries who experience no heat issues should contact the Village Code Enforcement Officer during regular office hours from 8:30 AM to 4 PM at (914) 271-4783. If the situation occurs outside of office hours, contact the Police Dept. at (914) 271-5177. Code enforcement personnel will visit the location to measure the temperature and contact the owners as necessary. This applies to all rentals, including two-family houses, where the owner does not live onsite.

Quarterly utility bills were mailed in December and are payable by Wednesday, January 15th without penalty. The bill includes both the water and sewer fees. As a reminder, bills can be paid online by going to the Village website, may be mailed to the Municipal Building or paid in person at the Village office. Questions regarding your bill should be directed to the Finance office at (914) 862-1419.

Christmas Tree Recycling
The Village’s Department of Public Works will pick up discarded Christmas trees during the month of January. Trees should be placed curbside and be free of all trimmings, tinsel, or wires. Please do not bag discarded trees.

2025 Summer Employment Opportunities with Croton Recreation
The Recreation Department has begun accepting applications for 2025 summer employment opportunities, including day camp counselors, life guards at Silver Lake, and gate attendants at Silver Lake and Senasqua Park. Applicants must be at least 16 years old as of July 1st. Lifeguards must be at least 15 years old as of July 1st. The Croton Police Advisory Committee (PAC) invites residents to participate in the 2025 Community Survey on Safety and Law Enforcement, a new survey focused on traffic and school safety—two issues identified as priorities in last year’s community feedback.
The PAC, formed as part of New York State’s Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative, is a volunteer group that works with the Village Board of Trustees and the Police Department to foster communication and advise on local concerns. This year, the committee collaborated with the Croton-Harmon School District Superintendent, Village officials, and school board members to craft the survey.
The deadline to complete the survey is Friday, January 31, 2025. The PAC will share the results of the survey with the community during a Town Hall in late spring 2025 and on the Village website.

Croton Caring and the Croton PBA are running the "Wheels for Croton" bicycle donation program, accepting gently used bicycles and tricycles for children through March 1, 2025. This ongoing initiative brings the joy of cycling to local children, promoting outdoor activity and fun.
Donations can be dropped off at the following locations:
- The Croton-on-Hudson Police Department at 1 Van Wyck Street
All bicycles and tricycles must be in good condition and are intended exclusively for children. Help make a difference by donating a bicycle today!

Community Blood Drive

EagleFest

Teatown’s 21st Annual Hudson River EagleFest will take place on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Croton Point Park. The program includes thrilling live bird shows spotlighting birds of prey, bird walks where you can view eagles through spotting scopes, heated tents filled with educational displays and exhibits, crafts and games for children, food trucks, and more!
