   How To Help

Dear Friends,

Our 2025 is off to a bright and promising start! From welcoming new faces to celebrating milestones, we’re starting the year with optimism and renewed energy. Here’s a glimpse of what we've been up to and the good news that’s been fueling our momentum as we move forward together.

Our Holiday Campaign Goal

We are thrilled to share that we have successfully exceeded our holiday campaign goal of raising $250,000 to provide shelter and supportive services to survivors of domestic violence! This incredible achievement was made possible by the generous support of our donors and the entire community that rallies behind our mission. Thanks to your contributions, we can continue to empower survivors and help to transform their lives.

A special shout-out to The Madison of DCthey raised an astonishing $15,525 for My Sister’s Place through a variety of events, and we are deeply grateful for their generosity.

Thanks to this momentum, we’re inspired to aim even higher with a stretch goal of $275,000. Every additional dollar helps us expand our programs and reach even more survivors in need of our services.

Donate

A special thank you to everyone who donated toys this holiday season—your kindness brought smiles and joy to the children and families we serve, making their holiday season brighter. Together, we are making a lasting impact, and we couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead in the new year!

MSP's Peer Empowerment Group

Our new support group has shown tremendous growth! MSP's Peer Empowerment Group (PEG) provides a space for survivors of domestic violence to come together to support, uplift, and empower one another. Focusing on personal growth, advocacy, and navigating shared challenges, survivors can seek help and help each other while building community, confidence, and self-advocacy.

“I have seen people feel like they are carrying less when they realize they are not the only ones who are going through this journey.”

The idea for Peer Empowerment Group emerged when one of our advocates noticed the profound sense of relief clients experienced upon realizing they weren’t alone in their struggles. Originally intended as a biweekly call, the group's success was evident from its very first meeting, with attendees immediately requesting weekly sessions. What makes Peer Empowerment Group truly special is the diversity of its participants' journey within My Sister’s Place. This fosters an extra layer of community and intimacy, as attendees feel deeply comforted and understood by others who share similar experiences.

Since the first meeting, the support group has doubled in size! We're excited to continue sharing updates on the incredible growth and impact of this amazing program as it continues to evolve!

MSP's Financial Empowerment Program

MSP’s Financial Empowerment Program is making a meaningful impact by addressing the financial needs of our clients—an essential step toward lasting independence. Advocates identified financial education as a critical tool for helping survivors regain control of their lives and work toward financial stability. One client shared,

“I am bad with money; no one taught me how to manage my finances.”

Our Financial Empowerment lead works closely with clients to change their mindset about money by fostering trust and breaking down the stigma around discussing finances. Through this approach, clients gain confidence and develop practical money management skills.

The program offers personalized 1:1 credit counseling, budgeting workshops, and small group cohorts focused on building financial skills and independence. Clients work with MSP’s in-house Financial Education Specialist on strategies to address financial challenges such as repairing credit scores and overcoming barriers to financial security. In addition to monthly financial workshops based on client needs and time of year, clients learn to make more informed financial decisions.

In partnership with MSP’s Workforce Development Program, clients are gaining valuable insights to increase their income. Together, these initiatives empower survivors to achieve greater independence and financial security—one step at a time!

MSP's Above & Beyond Award

MSP’s HR Department has introduced the Above and Beyond Award, a quarterly recognition honoring employees who exemplify initiative, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence. Whether it's solving challenges, supporting colleagues or clients in meaningful ways, or delivering extraordinary results, recipients truly go the extra mile to make a difference.

This new initiative reflects our commitment to recognizing and rewarding our staff for the meaningful and impactful work they do to support survivors. The team members at My Sister’s Place work tirelessly to advocate for clients, educate the community, and raise funds for the organization. The award was designed with input from staff across all levels, ensuring it reflects the values and ideas of our team.

HR Associate, Trevor, shares, “Amanda and I often seek feedback from staff at all levels—management, advocates—to refine ideas and ensure they resonate with the team”. By fostering a culture of appreciation and support within the organization, we aim to encourage continued passion and dedication.

The first Above and Beyond Award recipient will be announced in March. Stay tuned for updates!
