17 Ways to Keep Your Middle Schooler Interested in Reading
As your kids get older, they may put reading on the back burner. Between extracurricular activities, hanging out with friends, and engaging in screen time, it's possible your middle schooler hasn't spent much time exploring new books. Learn the best ways to keep them turning the pages with these helpful tips.           - Adapted from 2021 Scholastic Inc.
  1.   Let your child choose what to read.
  2.   Talk about what she reads.
  3.   If he's struggling or bored with a book, let him put it down.
  4.   Subscribe to magazines that will interest her.
  5.   Read the news together.
  6.   Be flexible with bedtime and chores when your child is reading.
  7.   Play games that utilize reading.
  8.   Encourage your middle schooler to read to a younger sibling.
  9.   Visit the library together.
  10. Find an outlet for your child to "publish" a book review.
  11. Ensure he has a good reading space.
  12. Keep up on what she's reading.
  13. Encourage writing.
  14. Provide a good dictionary.
  15. Suggest books from movies he liked.
  16. Listen to books on tape in the car.
  17. Model reading.

Parent Academy Meeting
We will hold a parent meeting Monday, November 15th at 6:00 pm in the cafeteria. Topics to be discussed include our digital software and the upcoming 6th-grade field trip.
6th Grade Field Trip
In May of 2022, our sixth graders will travel on an extended day field trip to Chattanooga, Tennessee to experience several venues. These venues include the Tennessee Aquarium, Rock City, IMAX Theater, and
lunch on the Chattanooga Riverboat. While traveling back to Jasper, the students will stop for dinner at the food court in the mall. Due
to the time of the trip, charter buses will be utilized. The cost per student is $100, which will include all venues and a t-shirt. Due to
this field trip costing more than most field trips the students have experienced, we will allow a payment schedule and plan of four payments of $25. That schedule will be shared next week.
