'Joy is resistance': LALSA and BLSA host 'Know Your Rights Symposium'

Two WashU law school student organizations - the Latin American Law Student Association (LALSA) and the Black Law Students Association (BLSA) - came together to inform the WashU community about the broader implications of immigration law and due process. Their efforts culminated in an open "Know Your Rights Symposium," which was held on Wednesday, Sept. 17, in Crowder Courtyard.

'Kemper Unplugged': The Wire Pilots bring live jazz to campus

The Kemper Art Museum recently hosted its first concert event of the semester as part of the series “Kemper Unplugged,” with a performance from local band The Wire Pilots. Last Friday at noon, the jazz trio played a quick, 45-minute set in the lobby of the museum — free for everyone.

“Kemper Unplugged” is a monthly concert series hosted by Kemper in partnership with WashU’s Department of Music, providing free music for the St. Louis community in the presence of the beautiful art at the museum. In fact, this time, The Wire Pilots performed right in the lobby in front of the room’s main painting while audience members sat in rows of chairs facing the band.

WashU is facing an assault on one of the core parts of its mission: advancing research and innovation. The Trump administration has proposed caps on research funding that are threatening millions of dollars to WashU researchers and scientists.

On June 13, 2025, Chancellor Martin informed the WashU community that Congress is considering capping reimbursements for indirect research costs, which support general research needs, at 15%. The implications of this policy change would predominantly affect the medical school, stripping millions of dollars from WashU researchers and threatening financial aid for talented medical students and researchers.

We are members of the Bears’ Caucus, a new program that allows students to serve as ambassadors for WashU’s interests. Our work engages with a wide range of political issues that affect students’ lives and futures. We’ve recently shifted our focus to federally-funded research because we care deeply about the future of research and education at our university. Across campus, we have noticed a growing sense of anxiety surrounding potential funding cuts among our peers across every major and department.

No. 5 women's soccer shut out UMHB and Rhodes to remain unbeaten

The No. 5 WashU women’s soccer team defeated Rhodes College 3-0 on the road on Sept. 21. This win came less than 24 hours after the Bears beat University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB) 6-0 on Sept. 20. This win asserts the Bears’ dominance over the Lynx, as it is their tenth time in a row winning this matchup. While WashU fell in the United Soccer Coaches rating after drawing Trine University last week, they regained their momentum with the weekend sweep.

No. 5 volleyball honors seniors with dominant wins over Concordia and Simpson

Cheers erupted in the Field House as the WashU volleyball seniors walked out onto the court on Saturday morning to the support of their teammates, friends, and family. The team honored five seniors: outside hitter Anna Hodell, outside/right side hitter Anna Freeman, middle blocker Eva Boling, setter Sam Buckley, and right side hitter Tori Taylor.

Keeping in line with yesterday, today will be another sunshine filled day with slightly warmer temperatures. The morning will be a little chilly, with temperatures around the mid-60s. It will soon heat up, however, with a peak in the high 70s around 3pm.

This trend will continue into the weekend, with temperatures peaking in the low 80s and an abundance of sunshine. Expect clear skies and not much wind. No rain is expected for the next several days, and the forecast is considerably less warmer than the weeks before. Fall weather may be finally approaching!
