CONGRATULATIONS!

We were pleased to award a total of $12,500 to this year's recipients! The awards banquet, held June 5th in Wamego, KS, had all but 2 of 18 recipients present, along with guests. The venue was packed with 50 attendees!  A taco bar and dessert array was available for guests upon arrival and then the ceremonies opened with a guest speaker, Ms. Kira Everhart Valentin, a 2004 KHC Foundation Scholarship Recipient, who graced us with words of encouragement to Dream Big as your future is waiting!  Kira gave a touching and impressive recap of how many different turns were along her path and how each new direction has provided great opportunities for growth. She advised all to never forget your past and your family but don't be afraid to move forward for the adventure.
A special thanks to Theresa Peddicord for volunteering  our venue location and helping with the banquet, and Paula Williams Lamb and Liz Wine, our Kansas Horse Council Foundation Chairmen for all their work in making the KHCF Silent Auction at Equifest 2019 a success!

The Kansas Horse Council Foundation, is a 501c3 organization, whose mission is to help further the education of people who have a passion for horses and who can make a positive impact on the future of the equine industry. The KHC Foundation provides secondary education scholarships with funds donated annually from the Weary Family Foundation and private donors, as well as proceeds from the annual Equifest of KS Silent Auction. This year, 18 scholarships were awarded to high school graduates and those continuing through college.

TWO PARKS IN KANSAS DESIGNATED FOR EQUESTRIAN
USE ONLY! WILD HORSE AT PERRY AND SADDLE RIDGE AT            HILLSDALE!

For the horse campers out there, two Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, State Parks are now designated for equestrian use, only.  Meaning, non-equestrians may not reserve spots in Wild Horse Camp, Perry State Park (Lake Perry) or Saddle Ridge Campground, Hillsdale State Park (Hillsdale Lake). You must have a horse to camp in these areas as designated equestrian campground use only.
For reservations, please contact the respective park offices, Wild Horse Equestrian Camp is still listed on Reserve America.com.

You must contact the Hillsdale Park Office to reserve a campsite in the Saddle Ridge Equestrian Campground at Hillsdale State Park.

Allowing only equestrians in these parks, is safer for everyone. Equestrians have limited, designated areas, and this helps to preserve them.
While visiting our State Parks, please don't litter on the trails. If you pack it in, pack it out. And clean your pens prior to departing.
Thank you for respecting while visiting our State Parks and natural resources, and the efforts to preserve them for equestrian use.
Stampede on down to your County Courthouse to get your
official KHC license plate!

GOOD ARTICLE FROM PROTECT THE HARVEST

We Must Stand United - The Horse World

Animal Rights Tactics - Divide and Conquer
Animal rights and other non-governmental groups have targeted different parts of the horse world for several decades. These groups are aiming to end all animal ownership and view villainizing horse owners and trainers as a step in that process. They target one discipline or breed at a time, and they have made big inroads without many in the horse world noticing.
They rely on a "divide and conquer" technique to push their agenda. These groups have become expert at picking the horse world apart. In this day and age of posts going viral over social media, one video clip or picture taken out of context could do damage that lasts for years. They malign an entire sport using a very small number of "bad apples" to make their argument. Fake and malicious posts have the potential to influence lawmakers which in turn, offers an opportunity for the uneducated public to vote for legislation that creates permanent changes. These changes do not improve the welfare of horses or the industry itself.
