 NEW TOOL FOR STATE LEADERS

New Online Tool Supports Local Systems Change at Intersection of Criminal Justice and Behavioral Health

As local communities work to tackle complex public health and safety problems, they encounter challenges that state leaders are best—and often exclusively—positioned to help them overcome. The CSG Justice Center has decades of experience bringing together stakeholders from different systems, sectors, levels of government, and communities to develop policies that draw on research from many fields, are practical for states and communities, and center the perspectives of people most impacted by these policies. A new tool aims to help state policymakers and staff from all three branches of government align health, justice, and housing policymaking to achieve public health and safety goals, including reducing the overrepresentation of people with behavioral health needs in local criminal justice systems.

STATE POLICY TOOL WEBINAR

Aligning Health and Safety: A New Tool for States to Transform Behavioral Health and Justice Systems

This webinar will elevate examples of states leading the way in facilitating creative solutions to keep people with behavioral health needs out of local justice systems, setting the stage for what’s possible when state and local leaders work together to tackle complex problems that no one system, sector, branch, or level of government can solve alone. Attendees will be introduced to the Aligning Health and Safety State Policy Tool, a new tool designed to assist state policymakers in identifying and implementing policies that enhance collaboration, streamline data collection and information sharing, and align funding mechanisms.
