Update on the Coronavirus
The District emailed a letter to parents this week regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19). We are closely monitoring the situation and taking guidance from the Warren County Health District, Ohio Department of Health, and the  U.S. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

There are currently no vaccines available to protect you against human Coronavirus infection. You can do your part by following the CDC's recommendation of getting a flu shot and taking everyday preventative actions to stop the spread germs such as: wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands, and avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Kings Student Wins Rotary Speech Contest
Two Kings High School students participated in the Mason-Deerfield Rotary’s Four-Way Test Speech Contest this week.

Each year, two students from Kings High School and two from Mason High School participate in the Mason-Deerfield Rotary contest. This year, KHS Senior,  Maddy Stewart  and Sophomore Sophia Jeng  represented Kings as they presented their speeches in front of Rotary Members and Guests. Congratulations to Sophia who was the winner of this year's competition.

The Four-Way Test Speech Contest, sponsored by Rotary International, is held annually for interested high school students at local and district levels. The speech is presented from memory without the aid of a podium, notes, displays or props, and lasts between four and six minutes.

Sophia will represent Kings and Mason-Deerfield Rotary Club on March 29 at the District Competition at Wright State University.

Rotary International is a world-wide organization dedicated to serving others. Great emphasis is placed on using one’s vocation, not only to serve others, but to establish honesty and integrity as marks of one’s profession and involvement in the world of work. The Four-Way Test has a long tradition or use around the world and is a part of Rotary’s motto: Service Above Self.

Congratulations to both Sophia and Maddy!

KHS RAISE Students of the Month
Kings High School has named their students of the month for March. At the beginning of each month, five students are recognized based on the five Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) at the high school. Those pillars are RESPECT, ACCOUNTABILITY, INTEGRITY, SERVICE & ENTHUSIASM.

Congratulations to KHS students pictured L-R: Joshua Reed (9th) - Service, Jack Henderson (11th) - Accountability, Brittany Gause (9th) - Enthusiasm, Grace Kellum (9th) - Respect, and Lainey Rankin (12th) - Integrity.

Congratulations to Kings Social and Emotional Health Coordinator, Kim Sellers who was awarded a $1,000 grant from The Walmart Community Grants Team.

The grant was used to purchase 25 copies of How to Be An Antirasist by Ibram X. Kendi. The books were used in a group book study for Professional Development focusing on the District's Diversity & Inclusion Initiative.

Kings Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator, Jorge Gonzalez led the group by setting up a Google Classroom group/study discussion with staff members. The group then met during the last Staff In-service to discuss the book.

How to Be an Antiracist  promises to become an essential book for anyone who wants to go beyond an awareness of racism to the next step of contributing to the formation of a truly just and equitable society.

The additional money from the grant will be used for more staff training in Diversity and Inclusion.

Walmart's grants support work in communities and desire to provide local impact. In the award letter, Walmart Community Grants Team said, "By receiving this grant, you are part of a long history of Walmart’s commitment to giving back to the communities where we operate. In fact, Mrs. Helen Walton used to say 'It's not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived.'"
