We won't bury the lede: WARLOCK is here! In its first 24 hours of life, this 5e Midgard Patreon campaign gained enough followers and enough funding to begin publication, and we couldn't be happier. Keep reading to learn more about its sinister contents!

On top of that, we partnered with Inkwell Ideas to create the Deck of Beasts, a tool that will make it even easier to run combat encounters from the Tome of Beasts. If you're going to be at Gen Con, you can check it out yourself!

But the fun doesn't stop there. No, we kobolds have more to share. Onward!
What's New in the Kobold Warrens
A Warlock Must Have Patrons!

Our First Patreon is Already a Success!

Like any Kobold Press campaign, the Warlock Patreon campaign grows better and better with your help. Every new patron who joins makes Warlock more powerful; and as of yesterday, this digital PDF supplement made the jump to becoming a print booklet mailed to your doorstep!

What is this Warlock you speak of?
Midgard is a wide world, too wide for even a massive sourcebook to cover in perfect detail. Warlock is a 5e supplement that consists of frequent booklets filled with new mechanics, new Midgard lore, and gorgeous black and white art by old-school RPG veterans like Karl Waller ( Al-Qadim, Shadowrun, Ruins of Undermountain).

We created Warlock to flesh out Midgard's dark corners and give our loyal followers a steady dose of new 5e content in between our major sourcebook releases.

Why Patreon?
Back when Kobold Press was still Open Design, the very first Zobeck sourcebook was printed for a small group of patrons-making it perhaps the first crowdsourced RPG product ever. We've continued that tradition through our many Kickstarter campaigns, but running a Kickstarter is like running a sprint. You get a quick flurry of activity, and then a long quiet period in the workshops until we ship.

Warlock isn't a sprint, it's a marathon. We want this 5e subscription to continue exploring Midgard's unexplored reaches for years to come, and a patronage system will give Warlock that longevity. This is something we want to create for you, the Midgard fan community. That's why our most generous patrons help decide what parts of Midgard we will explore next.

If new Midgard lore, new 5e mechanics, or brand new RPG art from old-school artists piques your interest...

Perhaps you wish to become a patron of WARLOCK.

The Deck of Beasts is on DriveThruRPG!

Thanks to Inkwell Ideas, now you can hold an entire Tome of Beasts encounter in the palm of your hand! Or randomly deal out foes to battle your unsuspecting players!

The Deck of Beasts is an ongoing project, and we currently have a deck of standard-sized cards with the game statistics of every low-level critter in the Tome. It's available now on DriveThruRPG... or you could pre-order a special edition in the Kobold Press store

Coming to Gen Con this week? Check out the deck at the show. Inkwell Ideas will be showing off the deck at  booth #562, so please drop in and say hi!

Acererak Made Flesh...And Ink!

We love to share art from passionate RPG fans, and @tony_nfm is one talented artist, depicting Acererak (in both lich and demi-lich form), the Temple of Elemental Evil, an evil 5e-style scarecrow (look in the right arm), and even some illithids, if you look closely enough... as tattoos!

RPG Inspiration: Seattle's Driest Summer... Ever?

Something's strange in the Seattle kobold warrens. The weather's all messed up! This winter, we had the wettest winter the city has ever seen (our tunnels were all flooded). And now, we're experiencing our city's longest ever stretch of days without a drop of rainfall! And to top it all off, a huge cloud of ominous smoke is drifting in from Canada, turning the skies a hazy gray and the sun an eerie blood-red.

If bizarre meteorological activity is this spooky in real life, imagine how unsettling you could make it in your RPG games! What legendary creature's environmental lair effects could dry up all rain...or cause torrential downpours on a whim? What strange magic causes smoke so thick it fills the entire sky and makes the sun seem to drip blood?

Gaming Roundup
Have you seen the latest articles on the Kobold Press blog? Our writers are some of the most creative RPG authors working today. Don't sleep on this!
Now, to sign off, here's some fantastical and exciting news from around the web. Some strange, some mystical, all fantastic!

Our friends at Nerdarchy went in-depth exploring magical sources of power for the most mysterious of arcane casters: the Warlock. This warlock is for a Spelljammer campaign, and such a spellcaster would need to draw upon the power of outer space itself... the void. That's where Kobold Press comes in, with lots of tasty void magic.

R enowned RPG reviewer Endzeitgeist has taken an in-depth look at Deep Magic 6: Angelic Seals:

"I really like Dan Dillon's angelic supplement. The seals feel "lawful", methodical, like tools of the angels. The touch activation is cool and has been popularized by plentiful forms of media (like Supernatural) and the respective options fit - the potent defensive tricks make pretty clear how the angelic host can withstand the assault of the abyssal hordes."

That's all for now.  Happy gaming!
