Hike with Us and Adat Chaverim - December 19th, 10am-12pm at Griffith Park - meet at the Old LA Zoo Picnic Area

We'll be taking the kids (and any parents who want to join!) on a leisurely hike with fun activities and games along the way.

There will be an adult learning session with the Adat Chaverim community, led by Jonathan Friedmann. Adat Chaverim is part of the Society for Humanistic Judaism. Everyone is invited to join, but we especially encourage families looking for a secular, humanistic congregation to come check them out!

Parents can join the hike, adult learning, or just drop off kids.

Please RSVP by responding to this email or texting Yahli (310) 500-9944) and letting us know if you'll be able to make it!
WINTER SEMINAR IN LA

When:
Presidents Day Weekend - Saturday February 19th 11am - Monday Feb 21st 11am

Tzevet (counselors, 11th grade and up) should plan to arrive Friday 2/18 in the evening.

Where:
The Institute for Jewish Education 8339 W 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90048

Who's Coming?
The seminar is for all campers 2nd through 10th grade. Campers will be under the supervision of camp staff at all times throughout the seminar. 11th and 12th graders are invited to join as counselors but should fill out the camper registration form if they are under 18.

Health & Safety
All participants must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. We will be requiring pre-seminar testing and will let you know closer to the seminar what the requirements are. We are closely watching case numbers and information about the new variant and will adjust accordingly.

In the event that the seminar needs to be cancelled due to Covid-19 concerns, families will be refunded or can apply their seminar payment towards their summer tuition.

If your child is sick, we ask that you please stay at home even if your Covid test comes back negative. We can refund the seminar or turn the money towards the summer. If you have any questions about this, please contact us.

Cost
The cost of the seminar is on a sliding scale of $250-350 per camper (2nd-10th grade). Campers flying in will have their flights reimbursed up to $200.
Scholarships & payment plans are available for all Gilboa programs. Contact Elana to discuss.

Transportation

San Diego: We will be booking group transportation from San Diego - either a shuttle van or train. There will be a counselor escort.

For campers flying from the Bay Area, please book these flights and forward your confirmation to yahli@campgilboa.org:

If your child would like to come and fly in from a different airport, please reach out to Yahli to coordinate before booking their flight.

Winter Break Day Camp

Gilboa is teaming up with the Silverlake JCC! We're bringing a taste of summer to SIJCC's 2nd week of camp, January 3rd-7th! There's still time to register here!

10th grade and up: If you're interested in working at Winter Camp, email yahli@campgilboa.org
Tzedek

Tzedek is Gilboa's social action & leadership program for 9th-11th graders.

The cost for Tzedek (not including weekend seminars) for the year is a sliding scale of $150-250. Register HERE if you did not register via the Tzedek seminar registration.

Tzedek teens spent the past month forming va'adot (committees) to explore different social justice issues they are passionate about and campaigns they could work on as a group. Next semester they'll be diving into learning and justice work around homelessness and housing.

We're on a break until January, but make sure to sign up for Winter Seminar and look out for Winter/Spring Tzedek meeting dates soon!
Summer Registration is Open!
Registration is open for summer 2022! You can find details on the Dates & Rates page. Make sure to register early! We filled up last summer and expect to again this year.
Families of current 10th graders:
There will be two program offerings this summer, one in Israel (MBI) and one in the US (MBG).

While we are still developing the US-based program with other Habonim camp partners, we are excited to share that registration for MBI is open!

All questions related to MBI should be directed towards Kaela, the Habonim Programs Director – programs@habonimdror.org.

If you are interested in the US-based program and have not yet shared feedback with Elana, please reach out!

ROSH ANNOUNCEMENT:
Introducing our Rosh (head of camp) for summer 2022...Natasha Marder!
"Hey everyone! Natasha here! So so excited to be Rosh Gilboa for summer 2022! I’ve been going to Gilboa since 2011 (when I was 11) and it is truly one of my favorite places in the world. I have had the pleasure of being a chanicha, a madricha, a madatz madricha, and melavah on mazkirut. I’ve learned and grown so much since beginning my time at machaneh and I can’t wait to continue that process! I am constantly inspired by all of the tzevet and chanichimot at Gilboa. I couldn’t ask for a better community!"
Community
Support Gilboa today!

This past summer we saw just how much kids and teens need Gilboa. A record number of campers joined us for a summer at our beautiful camp in Big Bear! A growing camp means growing needs. Your gift will directly nurture and build Gilboa’s growing community of young leaders at all stages of their Habonim journey.

Check out Gilboa's impact, in the words of our youth, and consider contributing today to support the journey of a lifetime!
Save the Date: Gilboa's Annual General Meeting
Sunday January 9th, 12-2pm
The Institute for Jewish Education, 8339 W. 3rd St. (with a Zoom option to join!)

Each year we gather as a community to hear updates about the previous year, vision together for the future, welcome new board members, and show appreciation for everyone involved in building this wonderful community.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to join!
Reach out if you have any questions. Hope to see you soon!
