June 8, 2023
Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community:
It has been an exciting week of learning and celebration. Please see here for some photos from the last several days. It's been great to have so many community members celebrate our students' growth this academic year, and I'm seeing a lot of smiles with the activities that have been planned for today.
Yesterday, we had our annual fifth grade "Celebration of Learning" event, as a culminating activity to help our students celebrate their new beginning into middle school years! It was a lot of fun to see them shine and to spend time with their families.
Please join me in congratulating Sra. Rosa Rodríguez as she begins her retirement at the end of this school year. Rosa has been a friend to all, and she has always worked to center students in everything she does. During her nearly 23 years with PSI, Sra. Rodríguez was a classroom assistant and a second and fifth grade teacher. We will miss her presence, and we wish her well as she begins this next chapter.
As the school year closes today, please know how grateful I am to each of you for entrusting your children with us. I look forward to seeing many of you in a few short months. To our families and staff members transitioning from PSI, we thank you all for being members of our community. May you have a safe, happy, and exciting summer making great memories.
Gracias, y nos vemos pronto.
Corey

¡Muchas Gracias!
We are grateful for the community support of our school. Collectively, hundreds of parents have dedicated thousands of hours to support our programs. Thanks to our outgoing PTO co-chairs, Stephanie Phan and Stacey Stewart for their leadership, dedication, support and creativity during the past two years.

PSI Kindness Rocks Garden
Take a look at the PSI Kindness Rocks Garden out in front of our building by kiss and ride. A special “thank you” to Lindsay Lane for creating our beautiful sign! Judy Contreras’ students were the
ambassadors for this project so a special “thank you” to them also. Feel free to have your
child(ren) paint a rock this summer and help our garden “grow.” If you spray a varnish over the
painted rock it will last. PSI will now be registered in the National Kindness Rocks Project. Click HERE to learn more!

Incoming Kindergarten (2023-2024)
Spanish Summer Mini-Camp
Incoming kindergarten students are invited to sign-up for a summer mini Spanish camp through Community Education, and taught by PSI staff.
This four-day experience is designed specifically for kindergartners entering Park Spanish Immersion School in the Fall of 2023. Students enjoy learning songs, stories, games, and arts and crafts-all in Spanish! This camp is a great introduction to what students will experience in kindergarten as they learn classroom routines that will be used during the school year. There are a limited number of spaces, so register early. Please register for just one session. Scholarships are available.

What is Juneteenth?
All Summer Programs will begin on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 - SLP Closed on June 19, 2023 in observance of Juneteenth
Please be aware that Juneteenth (June 19, 2023) is a federal and state holiday and that St. Louis Park Public Schools will be closed, including summer programming, Kids Place and other school-related activities on this day. We look forward to welcoming students to summer programs beginning Tuesday, June 20.
What is Juneteenth? Juneteenth recognizes the historical pronouncement of the abolition of slavery on June 19, 1865, when the Emancipation Proclamation was said to have been first publicly read in Texas by Union soldiers.
Why didn’t we know sooner that SLP would be closed on Juneteenth? Recent Minnesota legislation established Juneteenth as a state holiday. Minnesota school districts received notice of this change on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, and the Minnesota Department of Education advised that schools cannot hold classes or programs, school board meetings, athletic practices and competitions, and other school-related activities.
All SLP summer programs will begin on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. Families enrolled in summer programs previously scheduled will be notified of any potential refunds, credits or rescheduling plans.
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility with this change.

Thank you for a great PTO school year!
Thank you PSI PTO (all of you!) for a great school year! We were back to a year of full PTO programming and even added a fall family party and a movie night. Tons of new volunteers stepped up to execute events, manage behind the scenes needs, and even completely update our website! We surpassed our fundraising goals for Leer-a-ton and the silent auction. And we just raised more than $9,000 from our spring fundraiser. This puts us at a record high annual fundraising amount of $64,000! This will allow us to have full PTO programming next year along with welcoming new amities. An extra big thank you to Stacey Stewart and Stephanie Phan for their hard work as PTO co-chairs for the last two years. If you have any ideas or want to help next year, reach out to psivolunteers@gmail.com. THANK YOU!!!

Gracias to the Amity Coordinator Team!
The PSI PTO would like to extend a special thank you to our amazing team of Amity Coordinators: Megan Patterson, Kyle Wermerskirchen, Susan Croom and Paige Young. These folks spent countless hours behind the scenes planning for intern arrivals, orienting the interns, host and cousin families, organizing community building events, regularly meeting with the interns throughout the year … and the list goes on. PSI would not have an Amity Intern Program without this amazing team of volunteers. Please pass along a big GRACIAS! if you see these folks.

And a final thanks…
A final thank you to the 5th grade Celebration of Learning Team for a fantastic send off to middle school. Muchas gracias Tan Scheraldi, Lisa Palmen, Jana Christian, Danielle Stockton, and Stacy Natzel. Check out the photos below! If you’re a 4th grade parent and interested in planning next year’s event, send an email to psivolunteers@gmail.com.
