From the Principal

February 23, 2023

Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community:

I hope that you are safe and well. This is certainly a lot of snow! I am grateful to everyone for their flexibility and kindness with this winter weather.

It was wonderful to see so many families last week for Family Connect times. Thank you for meeting as we collaborate on behalf of your amazing children. If you were in the building, you may have seen some of our door decorations created by the students celebrating Black History Month. We wanted to be able to share with everyone if you may not have physically been in the building or seen all areas.

Yesterday was School Bus Driver Appreciation Day. I have tremendous gratitude for the amazing individuals who drive our students to school safely daily. It is also School Board Recognition Month in Minnesota. I am grateful to our School Board members for helping guide and support our strategic direction.  Muchas gracias.

Take care, and hasta pronto.

PSI Drama Club Performs ¡El Grunch!

The Drama Club is preparing this year's musical. This year's show is a variation of Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, in which a student attempts to sabotage the school play. Will the Grunch be successful, or will the show go on?

Due to the snow storm we've rescheduled the school assemblies for tomorrow, Feb. 24. Families are invited to attend the evening shows at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, February 24, or Saturday, February 25. Both evening performances will be at the SLP Middle School Performing Arts Center. There is no charge to attend. Shows will be in Spanish with some translation into English.

Grades 3-5 Spring

Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA's)

Our students in grades 3-5 will take the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA's) this spring.  The MCA's are state tests in reading, mathematics, and science that are used to meet federal and state legislative requirements. The tests are one way for us to measure student learning, and they are administered every year to measure performance relative to the Minnesota Academic Standards that specify what students in a particular grade should know and be able to do. See here for more information.

MCA READING (Grades 3-5) - April 19 & 20 (8:00 - 10:00 am)

MCA MATH (Grades 3-5) - April 26 & 27 (8:00 - 10:00 am)

MCA SCIENCE (Grade 5) - May 1 (8:00 - 10:00 am)

PTO Fundraising Update

Thanks to our generous school community, we have raised $32,000 this year! The majority came from the $24,000 we raised during Leer-a-tón. This surpassed our $20,000 goal. Learn more about our budget here on our website. Our next big fundraiser, the online silent auction, kicks off on March 11th. Let's see if we can surpass our goal again, which is $15,000. Up for auction are: restaurant gift cards, sports tickets, passes to attractions in the area and events unique to PSI for kids, families and adults.

Details to come!

Thank You, Conference Meal Volunteers!

THANK YOU to all the parents who supported teacher conference meals last week! As a show of gratitude, the PTO invited teachers to enjoy a Thursday taco bar and Friday brunch with bagel sandwiches and salads. Many hours of planning, cooking, cleaning, and personal donations made this possible!

A special thank you to the PTO Conference Meals Leadership Team: Michelle McCambridge, Anna Younger and Jessie Lee. Bravo, team!
