Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community:
We hope that you are well. On Tuesday, our second grade students traveled to the St. Louis Park Library; we are grateful for the partnership with our colleagues there.

Meet the PSI Staff
In this section, we will be featuring some of our amazing PSI Staff so the community can get to know every adult in the building better, as we all work together to support all students at PSI!
This week we want to introduce you to three PSI Staff members. Jennifer Joyner is a kindergarten teacher, Deb Probst is our elementary support specialist, and Mariela Rodríguez is a kindergarten classroom assistant. We are so happy to have them!

PSI Career-a-Palooza - Presenters needed!
We are looking for volunteers for our upcoming Career-a-Palooza next week. This event will be on Wednesday, March 20th, from 7:45 am - 1:45 pm.
Presenters will share about their career at stations. Classes will have a set time to come visit stations. Click here for more information and to sign-up!

K-5 A-E Specialist Calendar
In our SLP elementary schools, our specialist classes rotate on an A, B, C, D, E day schedule. We do this so that students do not consistently miss classes on a particular calendar week day. Please see the March rotation schedule.

Supporting Students During Ramadan
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. This year, it will take place from March 10 to April 9. Practicing Muslim students will be fasting from dawn until dusk (approx. 5:30 a.m to 7:30 p.m). During their daily fasts, students will not partake in any food or beverage. Please be aware of what we are sharing with SLP staff about how they can provide support to students during this time:

Understanding and patience: Students may show signs of exhaustion, hunger and dehydration. Celebrations often involve gatherings and prayers late into the night, so it’s not unusual for students to be up past midnight for prayers and then get up at 3:30-4 a.m. to eat before dawn. Even students who do not fast may be tired as they may stay up late celebrating with their families.
- Diversity within diversity: There is diversity within diversity, and not everyone will observe in the same way. Do not ask why someone may choose not to fast. There are many reasons why someone might not fast - it is not appropriate to ask about this.
- Fasting: Educators may provide spaces for students to be away from others while eating and drinking is present. It is best to allow students a separate place.
- Prayer spaces: Help to direct students to designated prayer spaces. Fasting students may request a space for prayer, and they will need to face East. Students may pray five or more times per day.
Acknowledgement: It’s also appropriate to say “Happy Ramadan, “Ramadan Kareem,” “Happy Mubarak,” “Ramadan Mubarak” if you wish to acknowledge the holiday.

Application to Host Now Open! Amity Intern - Fall of 2024
Each year PSI welcomes eight Amity Interns from Spanish speaking countries who assist our teachers in the K-5 classrooms. Amity interns live with PSI host families one semester allowing both an opportunity for greater language learning and cultural exchange. Please consider hosting an Amity Intern for a semester! We need fall host families for our wonderful incoming interns next year. This is a unique and wonderful experience that can benefit your entire family.
