From School Leadership

November 30, 2023

Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community:

We hope that you've had a great week! Our third grade students went to the Bell Museum this morning and we look forward to hearing about their learning!

We hope that your family will join us for the PTO event this evening at the Middle School. The event will start with a Mental Health Fair from 5:30-6:15pm and our screening of the movie "Inside Out" will begin at 6:15pm in the Middle School Performing Arts Center. Please see below for more information, and we look forward to gathering!

Also, we hope that you can join us on Tuesday, December 12. As a community, we are partnering with the HOPE Speaks Project to hold a community dialogue rooted in our Strategic Plan for racial equity transformation. As parents and caregivers, you play a vital role in making the mission and vision of our school a reality. You are invited to show up for honestopenpersonal, and engaged conversations on race and its impact on our educational experiences. We’ll meet in the PSI Media Center from 6-7:30pm, and child care will be available. You can RSVP for the event here, which will help us plan for child care, but this event is open to anyone who is willing to attend, an RSVP is not strictly necessary.

As a reminder, students go outside daily for recess unless we have inclement weather; please label all hats, gloves, snow pants, boots, etc., and check out the "Lost and Found" the next time you are in the building! Have a great week, and thank you for sharing your children with us.

Sincerely,

Corey Maslowski, Principal

Kelsey Clark, Elementary Support Supervisor

Meet the PSI Staff

Meet the PSI Staff

In this section, we will be featuring some of our amazing PSI Staff so the community can get to know every adult in the building better, as we all work together to support all students at PSI!

This week we want to introduce you to three teachers that are new to PSI this year. María Carazo is a kindergarten teacher, Emma Larson is a first grade teacher and Maribel Fernández is a fifth grade teacher. We are so happy to have them! Please help us welcome them to the PSI Community.

K-5 A-E Specialist Calendar

In our SLP elementary schools, our specialist classes rotate on an A, B, C, D, E day schedule. We do this so that students do not consistently miss classes on a particular calendar week day. Please see the December rotation schedule.

In the Loop SLP Construction Update

View updates from Knutson Construction and St. Louis Park Public Schools about construction projects in the school district. November highlights include project milestones and progress for the High School and Middle School.

Fun Fact:The new synthetic turf field installation consists of 199 tons of sand and 174 tons of fine rubber pellets installed on top of the turf to ‘fill in’ the turf fibers and reduce the impact of the field users. This volume of sand is enough

to fill over 300 backyard sandboxes and this amount of rubber is roughly the equivalent of over 28,000 car tires! View the construction updates webpage.

Fundraising Update

Thank you to everyone who participated in Leer-a-tón and Give to the Max Day. Because of your generosity, we are in a great place with our fundraising. We raised over $22,000 from leer-a-tón, just shy of our $25,000 goal. But we exceeded our Give to the Max day goal and raised nearly $2,400. Through those campaigns, along with book fair, spirit wear and a few other donations, we have raised over $28,000! Thank You!

Amity Introductions - Meet Víctor

My name is Víctor Martinez. I was born in Spain, in the city of Soria in 2001. I live there with my parents Luis and Paz, and my sister Blanca, who is 26 years old. My parents are from Soria too. I studied at a university in Segovia and finished my degree. I studied to be a physical education teacher. I have not worked in a school until now because I finished my degree last year. Interestingly though, for the past two summers, I worked as a postman.

I love all the sports. When I was a child I played soccer, swimming, and volleyball. Most recently I was a soccer player, playing as goalkeeper. Also, I like to ride my bike with my family, go to my village to see my friends, hang out with my friends and travel. I am very excited about my future experiences in Minnesota because I want to teach the customs of my country, my language and the things that I learned in the university. Also I want to know about life in the USA, learn about the education system, travel around the country and improve my English.
