From the Principal

May 25, 2023

Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community:

We hope that you have had a great week! The weather has allowed us to do many activities outside--including running the mile this week! I heard that we had a lot of students cheering on their classmates.  It made me smile to see so many kindergarten parents participating in music class for the Spring Sing this week!

For the second year in a row, our fifth graders participated in two one hour sessions of a dance artist-in-residency with Djenane Saint Juste. She does a phenomenal job teaching and guiding our students, and we are grateful for her partnership, and the financial support of our Parent Teacher Organization.

We have many, many, many items in our Lost and Found. Please check it out during one of the next times you are in the building. After the middle of June, remaining items will be donated.

Thanks for being a member of our community and for sharing your children with us.

Take care.

Corey

Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! Each week we will share an article or information around children’s mental health in order to fight stigma, educate our community, and advocate for those affected by mental illness.

To learn more about how to talk to a dysregulated child, see You’re Fine by Big Life Journal. Also check out: How to Respond to An Emotional Meltdown to Raise Strong Kids

  1. Put on your own oxygen mask first.
  2. Embrace the range of emotions.
  3. Remember that emotions have many layers.
  4. Be their emotional anchor.
  5. Help them build a personalized emotional toolkit.

If you have concerns about your child’s mental health, please reach out to our School Social Worker, Jennifer Gregor (gregor.jennifer@slpschools.org) or our School Counselor, Anne Moore (moore.anne@slpschools.org).

Incoming Kinder Spanish

Summer Mini-Camp

This four-day experience is designed specifically for kindergartners entering Park Spanish Immersion School in the Fall of 2023. Students enjoy learning songs, stories, games, and arts and crafts-all in Spanish! This camp is a great introduction to what students will experience in kindergarten as they learn classroom routines that will be used during the school year. PSI staff will be instructing these camps. There are a limited number of spaces, so register early. Please register for just one session.

K-4 Last Day of School Celebration Activities

Back by popular demand, each grade level will have one hour of fun activities that our teachers and staff will lead as a part of our end of year celebración.  See below for the schedule:

  • Kindergarten: 8-9:00 am
  • Grade 1: 10-11:00 am
  • Grade 2: 9:00 - 10:00 am
  • Grade 3: 11 am-12:00 pm
  • Grade 4: 1-2:00 pm

Elders' Wisdom Children's Song

The recent fourth grade Elders’ Wisdom, Children’s Song community celebration was fantastic! The fourth graders worked with Sr. Davis, Sr. Larson, and Sra. Wieber to put the finishing touches on their songs. They were very excited to share their learning with the PSI community.

Memorial Day

In honor of Memorial Day, St. Louis Park Public Schools will be closed. Memorial Day is recognized in honor of all those who fought for freedoms. We remember those who have passed, and thank those who have dedicated their lives to protect our liberties.

June is the beginning of Pride Month!

Pride Month begins on June 1! LGBTQIA+ Pride Month is celebrated each year in the month of June. Historically, June is significant because of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. This was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the U.S. However, there have since been many more strides in the LGBT movement throughout the years. We celebrate the diversity in our school community!

Second Annual Juneteenth Celebration at the St. Louis Park ROC!

Sunday, June 18, 1-4pm. Join us for a fun filled celebration filled with education and entertainment, shopping, fun, and food!
