March 2, 2023

Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community:

We hope that you have had a great week! I loved having the opportunity to watch "El Grunch," this year's PTO-sponsored drama club performance, under the direction of Sra. Kim Wieber. We had two daytime performance assemblies, as well as evening performances at the Middle School on both Friday and Saturday. Please see here for some photos of the 126 student participants. This work is aligned with our District Mission of empowering each learner to live their brilliance. Thank you to everyone involved for providing this amazing experience for our community!

Please see below for some great upcoming opportunities. Have a great week, keep reading, and thanks for sharing your children with us!

Sincerely,

Corey

15th Annual PSI Silent Auction - Bidding Opens March 11th!

This annual event is the second biggest fundraiser at Park Spanish Immersion.  The auction is online and will feature tickets to see the Twins, Vikings, and Loons, restaurant and retail gift cards and even a signed Vikings item!  The grade-level teachers, specialist teachers, amities and even our principal have planned some one-of-a-kind events which parents can buy "tickets" for.   There will be community-building social events on the weekends too.  Don't miss out on the fun while also raising money for our Amity Program and other PTO offerings.

Bidding starts on Saturday, March 11th, at 12pm. Be on the lookout for a special edition LaPrensa with the bidding website link! Some of the tickets for the activities sell out quickly!

Bidding ends Friday, March 17th, at 10pm

Considering Hosting an Amity Intern?

Please do!  The PSI community needs you!

Amity Institute has already begun recruiting intern teachers for the 2023-24 school year. PSI PTO must have housing lined up for 8 Amity Interns. Several families have expressed interest (thank you!), but without firm commitments, PSI PTO will not be able to bring these critically important teachers into our classrooms next year.

What’s involved in hosting an intern?

  • Families provide a bedroom, meals and some transportation. Separate bathroom is not needed.
  • Interns ride the school bus to and from school with your student(s).
  • Hosting duration is 4-5 months.  The intern is less of a “guest” and more of a member of the family.
  • Arrangements can be made if your family will be away on a trip during the hosting window.
  • Watch your child(ren)’s fluency soar with the benefit of additional Spanish language in the home.  The entire family benefits from cultural exchange!

Why Amity Interns are an important part of PSI:

  • Enable small group-work in the classroom
  • Enhance class discussion
  • Assist with Drama club, Math Night, Science & Imagination Fair, and Carnaval
  • Assist with the dance program in PE class

Want to talk with someone who has hosted before?  Email at psiamity@gmail.com.

PTO Fundraising Update

Thanks to our generous school community, we have raised $32,000 this year! The majority came from the $24,000 we raised during Leer-a-tón. This surpassed our $20,000 goal. Learn more about our budget here on our website. Our next big fundraiser, the online silent auction, kicks off on March 11th. Let's see if we can surpass our goal again, which is $15,000.
