Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community:

We hope that you have had a great week.

I am excited to see our fourth graders present student-created songs honoring three community members for the "Elders Wisdom Children Song" Celebration next Monday at 6:30 pm at the St. Louis Park Middle School Performing Arts Center. This has been a great collaboration with our Talent Development and Music classes; please see below for more information.

Thank you to our community members for helping our staff celebrate "Teacher Appreciation Week." Staff members appreciate the great notes, food, and kind comments. I am grateful to work in this amazing community.

School Spirit Week is Next Week!

Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! Each week we will share an article or information around children’s mental health in order to fight stigma, educate our community, and advocate for those affected by mental illness.

Families are also invited to check out a FREE virtual Positive Parenting Conference May 18-22:

A Fine Parent presents this virtual conference with 16 masterclasses by world-leading parenting experts to support parents in raising happy, well adjusted children. There are sessions on positive parenting, connection & communication, brain development, and encouraging autonomy & boosting confidence.

Elders' Wisdom, Children's Song Celebration

The fourth grade Elders’ Wisdom, Children’s Song community celebration is next week! The fourth graders have been working with Sr. Davis, Sr. Larson, and Sra. Wieber to put the finishing touches on their songs. They are excited to share their learning with the PSI community.

Sra. Ruff's class will be honoring Sr. Luis Ocampo, a SLP soccer coach whose children attended PSI in the early years. Sra. Giraldo's class will be honoring Sr. Richard Freeman, a Vietnam veteran from our community. Sra. Gusmán's class will be honoring Sra. Elizabeth Hoy Linares, one of PSI’s very first teachers.

Families are invited to join us as the fourth graders honor these elders in a

community celebration on Monday, May 8, at 6:30 p.m. at the SLP Middle School.

Fourth grade students should arrive at the Middle School at 6:00 p.m. for a short practice before the performance.

PSI Spring Creativity Fair - DEADLINE is Monday, May 8

PSI Band and Orchestra Concert - Thursday, May 11th at 7pm

(**Students at 6pm for rehearsal**)

St. Louis Park High School - Auditorium (Enter at Door 4 on W 33rd St.)

(** Band students start rehearsal at 6:00pm, please arrive 10-15 minutes early to allow for your student to set up their instrument, find their seat, and be ready to start rehearsal at 6pm. **)

Students will not need to bring music stands because we will be providing them from the high school orchestra and band rooms.

Powwow Volunteers Needed

The American Indian Parent Advisory Committee (AIPAC) is seeking volunteers for the Honoring the Youth Powwow on Saturday, May 20, 2023. Volunteers are needed for setup, clean up, and various roles throughout the day. If you are interested and available, please sign up on the SignUpGenius link by Wednesday, May 17, 2023. When we say school nutrition professionals are heroes, we mean it! That’s why we celebrate them every spring with the annual School Lunch Hero Day. Join schools across the country who are recognizing the difference these team members make for every child who comes through their cafeteria.

Carnaval is an important part of Hispanic culture, long celebrated throughout history with parades, colorful clothing, and people dancing in the streets to music. As a Spanish Immersion school, we want to highlight cultural traditions such as Carnaval with our students and families and celebrate our diversity.

The festivities will be on PSI’s back lawn and bus lot. Join for music, dancing, games, food trucks, inflatables, and lots of fun. Don't miss the Carnaval parade at 1:30!

Lunchroom Volunteer Opportunities

School Lunch Hero Day falls on May 5! Let’s show our gratitude to the awesome PSI lunchroom staff for their hard work. Sign up to help our students in the cafeteria. Tasks will include things such as, helping to open tricky food packages, handing out extra napkins or utensils, sweeping, and wiping down tables. A maximum of two volunteers are requested for each time slot; there are two time slots per day, 11-noon and noon-1 p.m. Feel free to sign up for one or both hours. Volunteers need to be parents or legal guardians. This is a fun way to get into the school and help out!
