Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community:
We hope that you have had a great week! It was so much fun to connect with families last Thursday at the Middle School for the "Mental Health Fair" and the showing of "Inside Out!".
This week, our third grade students went to Westwood Nature Center and our first graders traveled to the Minnesota History Center. Today, our fourth graders are going to the Minnesota History Center. We are grateful for these additional learning opportunities!
We hope to see you next Tuesday, December 12, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at PSI in the Media Center. As a community, we are partnering with the HOPE Speaks Project to hold a community dialogue rooted in our Strategic Plan for racial equity transformation. As parents and caregivers, you play a vital role in making the mission and vision of our school a reality. You are invited to show up for honest, open, personal, and engaged conversations on race and its impact on our educational experiences. You can RSVP for the event here, which will help us plan for child care, but this event is open to anyone who is willing to attend, an RSVP is not strictly necessary.

Meet the PSI Staff
In this section, we will be featuring some of our amazing PSI Staff so the community can get to know every adult in the building better, as we all work together to support all students at PSI!
This week we want to introduce you to three new PSI Staff members. Danielle Carey is our school nurse, Heidi Thompson is a Special Education paraprofessional and Rosaura Aparicio is a kindergarten teacher. We are so happy to have them! Please help us welcome them to the PSI Community.

K-5 A-E Specialist Calendar
In our SLP elementary schools, our specialist classes rotate on an A, B, C, D, E day schedule. We do this so that students do not consistently miss classes on a particular calendar week day. Please see the December rotation schedule.

Help Review What is Taught in Classrooms: Join the District Instructional Programs Advisory Council (DIPAC)
Want to help review what is taught in St. Louis Park Public Schools classrooms? We invite families to apply to join the District Instructional Programs Advisory Council (DIPAC). You do not need any educational background to join. The Committee will review the process of our curricular and instructional program offerings.
- Apply by December 22, 2023
- No background required (just your interest to participate!)
- Seeking diverse perspectives
- Attend approximately 4 meetings (1.5 hours each)
DIPAC will strive to reflect the racial, gender, language, and ability balance of the school district and will actively recruit participants from underrepresented groups.

National Day of Racial Healing
The National Day of Racial Healing is an opportunity for children, teens, neighbors and community members to learn about each other’s diverse backgrounds, cultures, perspectives and lived experiences. All are invited to participate in the community conversation. This event is free and open to all ages. Registration opens, December 13.

Inclusive Schools Week is December 4-10, 2023
During Inclusive Schools Week, it is important to commemorate the progress that Minnesota schools have made in providing a quality education to an increasingly diverse student population including students who are marginalized due to disability, gender, socio-economics status, cultural heritage language preference and other factors. Inclusive Schools Week also provides an important opportunity for educators, students and parents to discuss what else could be done to ensure that their schools continue to improve their ability to successfully educate all children.
This year, the Inclusive Schools Week’s theme is “Draw Me In!” Participating in art provides a pathway to self-discovery, and sharing art opens doors to understanding and respecting different ways of thinking. Do we see the faces of all children and youth drawn into the canvas of our schools and society today?
The need to belong is a basic need of all students and an integral component of effective inclusive schools. To be inclusive implies a fundamental commitment to building relationships among students, families, educators and the community to support safe and positive learning environments. As we celebrate Inclusive Schools Week 2023, let us respond—Draw Me In!

Imagination and Inventors Fair
Mark your calendars, the 2024 PSI Science and Imagination Fair is scheduled for Monday, January 8th, 2024 from 6:00-7:30pm at the Middle School Field House. This is a big change from previous years, and being at the Middle School Field House should give us a lot more room for science and imagination! The goal of the fair is to encourage all families to participate and nurture our children's love of science and imagination! Keep in mind that student works do not have to be a science project. Past projects have included catapults, test plants and sculptures, to name a few. Winter break is a great time for your child to begin working on their project. Join the Silent Auction Team
The PSI Silent Auction is a fan favorite fundraiser that takes a team of volunteers to make it successful. We will be having our kickoff meeting on Monday, December 11th at 6:30pm. If you would like to be a part of this team, please email psivolunteers@gmail.com for meeting details.. We would love to have your help with this event. No prior experience is necessary and time commitment can be very minimal.

Amity Introductions - Meet Marely
My name is Ruth Marely Cruz Romero but I prefer to be called Marely. I am an Amity intern from El Salvador. Before coming to Minnesota, I finished my college degree in Modern Languages with a major in English and French with a focus on teaching.
In El Salvador I live with my mom. My house is in the rural area of El Salvador. It is surrounded by many trees and small mountains. My grandfather lives near my house and I always visited him every afternoon. My mom is a teacher and is one of the motivations I have to be a teacher too.
My favorite hobbies are going for walks, reading, watching movies and playing family games indoors and outdoors. One of my goals is always that children see me as a friend and family. I like to build a bond of trust with each one of them and always be there when they need me.
