From the Principal

September 29, 2022

Dear PSI Community:

I hope that you have had a great week! As a reminder, we do not have classes tomorrow, Friday September 30.

We are excited to meet with families for "Connect Times" this evening and tomorrow. Our intention for our fall "Connect Times" is to learn more about your child from you, for us to share noticings, and for us to work together to set hopes and dreams for our year together.  Due to offering both virtual and in-person meetings, we will need to build in a slight transition time to keep on schedule.   As a reminder, if changes need to be made, please contact your child's teacher(s) directly.   After your "Connect Time," please fill out this survey about your experience, as well as to give feedback to our Parent Teacher Organization and our larger community about events.

Two of our custodial staff members are retiring tomorrow; please join me in thanking them for their service. Tim Scott has worked in St. Louis Park Public Schools for over 41 years, and Tim Sebo has been with our school district for over 27 years. It was important to both of them to help us get the year started, and we are grateful for their contributions to our community during our years at our new building and in their many previous years on behalf of our students, families, and staff.

Thank you for sharing your amazing children with us! Have a great week, and keep reading.

Sincerely,

Corey

Welcome Amity Intern, Adrián Simonetti!

A special thank you to Laurie Swabey & Andrew Keith for hosting Adrián this semester! And thank you to the following cousin families: Laura & Jeffrey Florence, Tatiana Giraldo & Nick Sarnicki, and Jennifer & Robert Sangster. Adrián is assisting 1st grade classrooms this fall.

My name is Adrián and I’m 23 years old. I was born in Valladolid, Spain, and I have always lived there. I live with my mother Biljana, and my little sister Marina. My mother is from Croatia, a very beautiful Mediterranean country. I have been in Croatia many times, visiting my mother’s family. I can also speak Croatian since I was a child. I studied a degree in philosophy and then a master’s degree in teaching and education. I have a few months of experience teaching in a High School in Valladolid, but I am excited to work with Elementary School students at PSI, and to know the lifestyle of your community. I am sure we will get along really well and have a lot of great experiences. I can’t wait to share everything I know about my culture with all of you. Apart from my interest in philosophy and education I am also a musician and a sportsman. I play guitar and enjoy all kinds of music, classical and modern. I have also done sport for years. I like working out at the gym, canoeing and ice skating. Finally, I really enjoy reading and watching movies. I am very excited to meet you all and have a great time!

It's Time to Order PSI Spiritwear!

Fall Spiritwear is here! Our 2022 store is full of brand new items and designs. Orders are due October 13 and will be shipped directly to you in plenty of time for holiday gift-giving. Proceeds support PSI and the Amity program.

The deadline to submit applications for 2023 Arts & Culture Grants is Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. Visit http://www.stlouispark.org/.../arts-and-culture-grant... for the application and guidelines.

The Arts & Culture Grant Program is a collaborative program between the City of St. Louis Park, the Park Public Schools and Community Foundation and St. Louis Park Friends of the Arts. The program makes grant dollars available every year for music, visual arts, theater, film, multimedia, dance and other art projects. It provides funding for new arts programs that support community pride, connect artists and the community, and engage people in creative learning.

Artists, arts groups, students, community groups, and neighborhood, cultural and religious organizations are encouraged to apply. Applicants do not need to live in St. Louis Park, but projects must take place within the city.
